Hi all,

I'm excited to participate in this challenge. Awesome to see so many creative and inspirational entries.

I plan to create composition based on the theme of planetary transformation for colonization. Years back I did a painting of a world colony within a gigantic asteroid. I Still planning on the design of the elements and a story. I'll come up with several design sketches soon.

Please show us that "world colony" painting, I wanna see the progression. :)

The cavern like vista in the illustration is the cultivated world on the interior of a gigantic asteroid - used to be a part of living planet split by collision with celestial bodies. Inside are abundance of frozen waters deposits and crystallized minerals, with vast hollow spaces extends thousands of miles.
The barren chunk was discovered by the surviving colony. Transforming it into habitable world was a massive undertaking spanning generations. Numerous thermal fusion reactors constructed to melts the frozen water, and to provides constant light source and heat. Ducts and pipes direct the seawater into the volcano like giant humidifier - turning it into clouds, providing artificial atmosphere for the inhabitants.
Over time, Ecosystems are introduced, cities and structures erected around the fertile land. Asteroid transformed into a self-sufficient floating oasis in space. Like jewels inside the rock.

I’m still planning the layout and deciding on what foreground elements to add. Perhaps a giant drilling machine and a transport ships to deliver materials for the construction.

If your 3D version is this nicely lit, it will look grand. Good job!

The second sketch looks great. The clouds and glow from the generator combined gives it a very mystical feeling... A bit like the myst games...

Will be interesting to see how this will look in 3d...

Love the glow in your second concept painting - that will make a fine centerpiece. I can see some foreground elements would be nice, but don't overwhelm that glow. I could see the exhaust trail of a small aircraft leading from centre-bottom in a curve around to the left and back in to the glow, drawing our eyes to it. Possibly could use that to bring a small amount of contrastng colour?

That would probably look good (the drilling machine). I like your new composition. I look forward to seeing more.

Thank you all for the comments and helpful feedbacks. I've decided to expand the final layout on the 2nd sketch, and arrange elements based on Teapot's suggestion to direct lines of flow back to the glow. There'll be quite a few elements to model in 3D. Cities, landscapes, etc with details not visible from distance I might use matte painting as background. I'll post more designs and layouts soon.
