gaw, spent five hours playing around with Chanlum getting spectacular results, all excited, ready to take huge numbers of images combine them into a medly, then I go back to do one little tweak and I realize:

not ONE light in any of the renders had a shadow turned on!!!...

Kickme, I deserve it :D

ever get frustated withan image in your alhpa or bump channel that just wouldn't show up, you fool anfd fiddel and it jsut won't render, and then you realise you forgot to check the box to activate that channel :)

(the auto light gets me a lot on GI scenes so I turned it off by default)

howaout the ol "I can move the object for dome odd damn reason" whe your in point mode or axis mode or something other than object/model

Or getting frustrated with a littl piece of mesh that doesn't stick to its bone, only because you spelt the vertex map differently in the restriction tag.

Or having a light turned off in the render, as a child of seomething else so you don't look at it when doing test renders, and oyu wonder where the light is.

Or you can't select polys only because your in point mode.

Yeah I knowI get brain farts all the time, like where are my glasses, when they are on my nose.

<---just did something else stupid :D

I'm playing with decal mapping on a Star Trek mesh I downloaded in LWO... so the thing comes in with the textures all out of whack, but basically intact...

anyway, so the guy has the ncc-1701 decaled onto the saucer and I noticed: no alpha map? So I used the same IFF file with Colorizer to make an alpha map. and put it in the alpha channel...

Doi, there's no map underneath it so everything but the letters went away...

Ah now I feel sane again :scream:

I have done all of the above....hahahahaa:D

Heres one for me yesterday.I had an area on the side of a Castle tower I wanted to extrude, the tower was cylindrical so when I extruded all the points went to hell,so I meticulously pulled them all back into line, taking about 20 minutes I think it was, when all I had to do was select the polys, select inverse hide the rest, line up the points of the selection, extrude a dribble then drag the selection out straight, the difference being 15 minutes :D

Something I have found helpfull for a texture you need to re use on the same object in differing places is give it a number instead of a name ie 1 as your copy becomes 1.1 and so on,saves a bit of time I find.

Kai have you noticed how the static from your monitor screams party party party to the lens of your glasses all the time and they continously end up all gunked?,a workaround I have found is a glass cleaning cloth beside the monitor,no smearing, and the bonus is they are also brilliant for rubbing down Wacom overlays to smooth them just a bit more and reduce that horrid scratching sound that arises from time to time

Yesterday I was rendering an animation... (Poser animation in Cinema).

So, I did everything right...

The framerate in Poser: set to 12fps
the framerate in Cinema: set to 12fps

Set it, let it go...

It's a three second animation, so two hours later it was on frame 38... more than three seconds...

I had forgot to set the render engine to 12fps... it was still on 30...

BTW, this the animation I was working on is here:

I love this thread :D

Last night I was making a snakes tail for a kind of statue type object to connect to a head.I used a cube and started stretching and rotating points into an arc,got about from say 0 degrees to 70 and realized I could just use a spline.....doh!!! :scream:

say-g I have had a really busy view window setup before with every object nicely in its place, gone for the 3 key {rotate} and hit 4 {move} and ended up spending quite a while fixing it :D

I would like an AI plugin for our apps that is cross platform across all progs. What it does is works out when you are about do a big doh! and sounds a Titanic type fog horn and one of Robert Deneros psycho type voices screams at you "Dont touch that button!!,then an electric pulse is sent through your key board to re start your heart again :D
