View Full Version : Good modern architecture texture packs?

Hiya folks.

I'm about to embark on a mega scale architectural project that will inevitably require a shed load of textures.

A lot of these will be either hand-painted by me or photos taken by me. But I would like a head start.

Can you recommend a really large and high-quality (that means high-resolution, photo-realistic) texture pack for modern architectural design?

The kind of stuff I'm looking for is for rendering images found in the Brazil, Maxwell, Vray and FinalRender galleries - that sort of hyper-modern concrete style.

Here's a shot of what I mean: (from vray gallery)

http://www.vrayrender.com/gallery/gallerypics/osmosisvray_09.jpg

The key would be high-resolution concrete textures, really. Especially the type on the bottom left with those holes in. I've found a few good textures like this online for free, but I'd like a whole load to play with, expecially really high-res ones (1k +) and of course with bump maps included.

I've seen the Marlin Studios ones on architecture, but they include so many "old" style textures too, which I don't need.

I'd like to buy a pack, really - not download a load of images individually.

Thanks in advance!

I would use my camera to take a bunch of images, on a cloudy day for even lighting. Converting to bump maps is the easiest part. Getting quality source is the tough part. Modern concrete structures abound.

I too visit the free sites and have found some great textures especially at ::

http://www.mayang.com/textures/

But what I have done is download the free procedural plug-in from here::

http://www.darksim.com/html/simbiont.html

You can build out that concrete part in 3D exactly as needed, and then put a texture on it with a combo of procedural wear and photographic coloration and render out your own custom made textures. The nice thing about the procedurals is that if you change the seed value , you have a unique second version with the wear in a different place. Take a look at the rusty paint and limestone textures, thay are really great!

One step further if you want to actually spend some money, is to buy the DarkTree product they sell as it is the program used to create the procedurals, then you can open up the shaders that ship free wiuth the free Simbiont Plug-In from above, and tweak them by adding in reflecton channels etc.

Thanks guys - I'll be sure to check out your suggestions.

Thanks again :)

PS. That Mayang site is kickass... I've been using it for a while now. Great link!

Mothermachine,
I agree those are great photos! I have made tileable versions of at least 40 of his textures. I also combine multiple ones together to create new images as well.

Cheers, THOM
