good luck to all
don t know if i got a good ideea but ...
here it is
i recently saw (again) 2001, and i just keep remembering 2 images : the face o Keir Dullea (the movie wallpaper) and that cosmic ballet of spaceships floating on music.
hard to describe
now , i want to make an astronaut amazed by the beauty of what he sees (cosmic event, maybe a sunrise ...), the reflection on his helmet showing the spaceships ballet...

I can so relate to your inspiration. The first time I watched 2001, I did a poster of all the ships
and graphic imagry as well! So interesting that after all these years, it continues to inspire.
Welcome to this challenge, and looking forward to seeing which direction the inspiration leads you. (http://cosmicorigins.com/sci-fi-treasures/chapter1/pages/2001-discovery_9.htm)

Vlad, I like all your sketches. The shape for the space station is very beautifull.
Don`t know about the texture. A morereflective surface it will be a good option, I suppose.
Considering the previous challange, I`m sure you`ll find the best solution.
The hole concept idea is really nice. :bounce:
Keep up the good work dude !!
Toate cel bune si multa bafta ( ca inspiratie si idei, vad ca ai) !! :applause:

Really good modelling!
English is not my native language too, and its really painful to try to write any comments in english while U have modelled all day&night long.
Just one remark-the area of helmets glass surface-is this enough big to reflect the spaceships & stuff?
Ps. 2001 rocks :buttrock:

taavi you were right
i modified the helmet
at print rez it s ok
loading mersi
ce nick ai pe VA?
nurbs & subd it depends
i have to hurry if i want to finish in time so i use whatever modeling tools for a certain object just to build as fast as i can
i really like nurbs but poly modeling is faster
taavi
01-11-2005, 12:12 AM
U are Nurb-master :)
I am still polymodeller-too stupid for nurbs :(
I think the helmet is just fine now!
I really hope U manage to finish before deadline
Good luck!

The reflection was already mentioned... I think you need to look at the fabric of the suit, what is it made of? Right now it just feels like a plain grey lambert material.

Wow, very nice job (wish I could've come across this sooner). My only thought is the background behind the figure may have too much grain to it.
This one definately deserves a top spot on the list. :)

Looks Great 5 out a 5 for me, just one question, why is it burry in the back ground and the reflection in the helmet in clear. I think you could clear the blurryness. and make light reflections on the left side were the space suit light is. Great Work

In my opinion it's a bigger grand space opera than many other works here. Take a look... I understand it tis way: an astronaut(human) works on a space station in far future. In his helmet you cen see an alien reflected. First contact with aliens is for me a grand space opera:) It would be better noticeable if the helmet's glass was more transparent, and some astonished man's face would be seen. Well, at least that is how I interprete this piece of art.

Nah, I like it just fine without seeing the face: gives it a sense of mystery and drama. ;)

thanks for your critiques
some explanations
i only had 2 days for texturing 1day for rendering 1/2 for compositing
my fault
the face of the astronaut was modeled but it took too much to texture
the background does not match the reflection
my mistake
wanted the helmet/reflection to appear bigger in the final img but then i had to make bigger textures = render time up
soft shadows not so soft
not enough details
......
bottom line i really wanted to finish the challenge with a decent image
again thanks
