- They both look great, but I like the black and white image better.
- I think tha you need a little more light reflecting into the recessed areas at the bottom.
- I also think that the shutters are a little too smooth. Warping them a little would help.
- The sky looks good. The birds are a nice touch.

Looks great, Did you paint the textures yourself? I like the color version better though. Nice scene.

Can we see some Wires.

It looks like a high-quality photographic! Love the textures and the POV. It may be subtle, but the birds really added to this image for me. Beautiful work.

Very nice!

The only thing I thought was worthy of a crit was this: I'm not sure if it's just me...but the windows on the right looks somewhat like cement.

obviously awesome. im agree about windows on right. seems bump amount is a bit so much.

this is realy great.it looks too realstick.
the camera angel and the sky are wonderfull.
the textures also looks great.
and the trash box(i think)looks to CG,i think beacause it's too smooth in the edges.

great work:applause:

Excellent!

Nitpicking:
The bump on the arch on the face looking below has very similar bump map as the arched ceilings (on both sides), it is as if you simply kept the same bump map settings there.

The glasses seem too reflective.

End of Nitpicking.

Great stuff!

i love this one.
can you show us a wireframe pls??
did you use any reference for it? can you show it to us?
you have done realy great job especialy on the textures. POV is also great. there are still some things that bothers me.
- i have never seen windows from floor to ceiling on such an old building, but may be this is just a diiferent type of architecture that im not used to.
- i think you could use some displacement maps. at least on the tower and may be floor. it looks kinda flat.

konst
11-14-2004, 10:01 PM
-The model is very good. I especially like the tower.
-The the plaster is very nice and I realy love the stonetexture you got on the tower with the big stones on the corner. Good sense of randomnes.
-Composition is also very nice. You have have take this picture to another level. It is intresting and great even if it is "just" a picture with a building. As the other said the birds is one of those details that has added something good to the mood and the atmosphere.

...the only thing I could find to critic on this great render is the blinds...they look to stiff and to propably opend.

Hi!

Really cool! Did you use displacement map or just bump map?

It looks like a photo! Congratulation.

Wonderful work! This, I think, is a truly evocative piece.

The one criticism I have, neglecting from the already-mentioned lighting issues in the alcoves, is that the windows are perfectly clean and reflective. If this building is as dirty as we see, the windows also would be covered in dirt, dust, and some grime.

It is easy to clean the windows, but can't say the same for the walls ;)
I do believe they are over-reflective tho, like I said earlier.

The bottom window on the left seems a bit odd, because it' is the only one that can be seen through (prob to clear) and it looks like the interior is the same as the exterior. Looks like a window inside with shutters on it.

like it though

excellent render. i havent had time to read thru replies so this might have been mentioned. there seems to be a bump map on the windows to the right of the image which looks wrong. i dont think there would be any on glass. maybe its the spec map that looks too blurry. maybe just needs sharpening up. very small crit to a finnished image :)

Reminds me of an old tv series called Colditz, about that famous war prision.

Just think the windows blinds shouldn't all be in the same positions. Some might be a little away from the wall.

Best regards.

Excellent image, although I think it lacks focus. Perhaps add something of contrast, a red bicycle maybe? How about middle bottom, a little to the right? Hehe, not to be specific or anything.

Great job :)

Beautiful work bud, your textures are excellent too. My only crit is the glass in the windows is too smooth. Remember glass is a very very very slow moving liquid that drips/distorts due to gravity over time. This beautiful building you created looks very old indeed, thus the glass should be slightly rippled.

A really convincing atmosphere - I like it! Now please tell us where it is, if it is based on a real place. It reminds me a lot of some place I've been but can barely remember...

I cant help but love the soft lighting in the direct sunlight...it gives it a dream-like quality. The black and white '1942' version is a nice touch, perhaps some dirt (like on an old photograph) will help it sell? Maybe some yellowing around the corners and such?

I agree that the bump mapping on the windows is a bit much-- I can see what you were going for though.

nice work, I just think the ground texture looks a bit flat, could it be the camera angle? It's nearly real, I love the colour of the brickwork and it's an excelent choice of building.

I like the fact that you chose a yellow paint color. It's a bit different than the typical grey/brown stucco look that most people would choose for this type of scene.

The only thing that bothers me about this picture is that the sky bloom seems a little heavy on the building edges, but also not bright enough overall in the actual sky. (You can still see the clouds.) If you're exposing for the dark corridors on the bottom of the image, then the sky would be blown out more than the side of the tower. The bloom seems to creep over the roof edges too much for my tastes. Image feels a little foggy all around.

These criticism aside, I think the composition, palette, textures and lighting are all really strong. The wires creeping along the walls are my favorite part.

Great job. I'm a definitive fanatic for the classic architectures from the very beginnings of civilization until about the 1960's (especially the church architecture of the 1860's) Not only is there a realism to what you have created, but it seems that all the design elements of the time are there also . . . resulting in a fantastic display of Virtual Reality Craftsmanship. Congrats on your win.

Very nice texturing, I agree with the comments about the choice of yellow paint, a bit different. Reminds me a bit of the style of lighting/textures in HifeLife2 - but how it manages that it real-time...

- They both look great, but I like the black and white image better.

- I also think that the shutters are a little too smooth. Warping them a little would help.
- The sky looks good. The birds are a nice touch.I, like Ed, really liked this image, but feel the pursuit of its reality (to be anal, 'suspension of disbelief'), has been lost a little, due to the bottom of the piece; lack of contrast, cobbles seem to uniform... . The black and white version disguises this better than the colour image, but the colour image (if we ignore the bottom) has some wonderful and gorgeous qualities in its upper region. The windows on the right do seem a little 'cement like', but I kind of like the odd surreal aspect of these things.

Overall you should feel pretty proud of yourself. I would be, if I'd produced some of the elements you have.

Just one main thing that snapped out at me from doing things like this often. The edges are too sharp. You see this stone work supposedly pushing out with grout and age etc. but you get to these little edges of the stone and it's a hard perfect razor straight edge. A building of this age would settle and cause some of the stone work to stand out more and even if it were newer you should see the points at which the grout insets.

Otherwise the image on a whole as so many here have already stated gives a somewhat realistic feeling to it. you fix the clean edes on it all ( shutters included as Ed Harriss mentioned) and it will be much harder to tell it's CG.

Good job!
