Kuoer 08-24-2002, 04:57 PM download DivX avi from HERE (http://cloud.prohosting.com/~kuoer/mov/AMay_352x264_Divx.avi) (19.2mb)
This short film is for my graduation thesis project. It took me about eight months from modeling to compositing. Please drop any comment to me and let me know which part i still need to improve. Thanks.

to schmu_20mol:
Thanks for your comment. I just wanted to design semi-realistic characters. Maybe the player's arms are too thin so they look too long when he acting. I think my character design is not perfect for this work. I will do some more creative design on next project.
to Daniel:
God bless me. I hope I could get job anywhere. Actaully, I just graduated on last month from Academy of Art College of San Francisco and I just came back Taiwan for a week.

That is really cooool I love this stuff, the only thing I can see is that when the arms bend at the elbow the skin flattens out instead of the back stretching to keep the dementions of the arm, other than that I think it is really koooool, oh and my wife really likes the music and would like to know where the singer is from and if there is a place on the net to find more of her work.

Not bad. You need to work on the skinning of the characters, especially atround the arms, seems like the vertex weights are too high and make heavy creases in the joints. Also some of the timing on the animation was just too slow, most noticeably on some dance moves and when the couple embraces. I'd just work on the key-poses and timing though. I know what it a pain it is to have to rig and skin characters, but if you get a chance I would definately fix those issues too. Good Luck.

to Hollis J Wood and RMac13,
Oops, you found my death wound. My characters are completely done by polygon. I tried to make less number of faces in order to speed up the progress (I got VX1 graphic card and AMD 800mhz processor). I am sure the subdivision of poly faces on arms that I defined is too low so that I got a weird arm bending. If I had more time, I'd rather make a new subdivision definition and better rigging. This is a good experience for my next project though.
I got 4 shoots that are slow motion. One is the established shoot, when the player jumps up and slams the ball. The second is when the player holds the ball and rotates his arms. The third is when A-May catches the ball, the other is the couple embraces. Maybe those are not obvious enough and kind of confusing.
This song is from a Taiwanese famous singer, A-Mei. Certainly, my characer, A-May, is designed from her type. If you guys are interested in her work, you can simply link to
http://www.a-mei.com/
Thanks,
to Daniel,
Of course I have to get job first, then I could do somthing for Taiwanese industry, however, I am not good enough. Challenge is everywhere, right? Keep in touch.....

I thought that your video was very nice.
There's was only one thing bugging me about it at first, but when I watched it again I figured out what was wrong.
People look very strange and unnatural when they don't blink, because it's not natural. You girl didn't blink at all from what I could tell.
That's just observation, I'm not bashing anything, I think your work was really cool.

Hey man,
Looks alright... the animation though needs some serious tweeking. It's really robotic... especially the dancing. But hey its a start and the more you do the better you get... so keep it up man!
and by the way, at the start there where the bball guys tossing up the ball... is that a shaolin soccer reference? if so that kicks ass... i love that movie :)

Actually robot, I believe that was my site ;) .
I used Max and After Effects. Yours was done entirely in Houdini? Do you have a link?
