Latest Update: Line Art: Another idea

Trying for something a little more "grand" with this sketch, to more closely follow the challenge guidelines . . . I imagine the city is a sort of resort destination, like an extrasolar Las Vegas.

A rough sketch of a potential layout. My idea is to show a small sub-surface (read: submersible) to super-orbit craft docked at a marina on Venus. The pilot will be exiting the vehicle, taking a breath of fresh air after a long haul.
Water can't presently exist on Venus in liquid form, but I'm imagining that in the far future the planet has somehow been nudged out to a more hospitable orbit.
I'm not sure this composition conveys as much "space" as I'd like it to, so I may remove the far building and show more ships docked off into the distance, or maybe a city.

Just playing with possible colors and surfaces. It's probably too duochromatic.

hey. :P balistic from sijun. hi...
love ur concept so far. u've developed it nicely. will be watching ur thread :D
if i may critique some... the coloring isnt too dramatic in ur post. hmm, try different angles? add some stuff like ur sketch. just suggestions. maybe make the building like a hanger... well it might be already. anyhow, i like it though. will like to see it taken further. good work. keep it up
You have a weird anomaly (grid-thing) in the bottom left. I agree that the building closes up too much of the grand ideas you have in your head. And it is just my uninspired opinion but I don't dig the duck tail look on the back end (or is that the front end) of this vehicle. I'd like to see more action too. Geez, I'm all over you like white on rice on a paper plate with a glass of milk in a snowstorm!
So here are some good things I can say: Your pallet of soft realism reminds me of several fantastic book covers that are typified in the genre so you're definitely rubbing elbows with the best of them. Your perspective is dead on. You know your metals from your mountains. Your scene is unique.
Hope this has been a help to you. Good luck my friend.

the backroung is coming along beautifully, as well as the surface of the craft. i like the idea of perhaps the city in the background, maybe along the cliffside. i definitely cant wait to see more.

Thanks for the feedback. This idea seemed pretty cool when I was working on it, but now . . . bleh. I need to spend more time on the drawing. I never have enough patience for the prep work :) Hopefully will have a chance to do something more this weekend.

Your last pict is very promising, with a lot of space in it.
I'll come back to see how you will detail it...
Good luck.

As if it ain't obvious, I just wanted to make it official that I've dropped out of the running on this one. Too many commitments to take care of right now. I had fun doing the sketches though, and will continue to follow the contest.
