View Full Version : knifing issues in editor display
laiels 11-12-2004, 07:16 PM Have any of you guys had this problem? I just bought a new desktop. P4 3.2, 1 gig Ram, Radeon X300 SE video card. When I run Cinema 4d using open Gl shading I get better editor display performance. However, when I use the knife tool, the little cross pointer blinks in and out. Furthermore if I leave the pointer in one place, the cross blinks out and I can't see it anymore. I can only see it while I'm moving my mouse. This obviously makes it difficult to use the knife tool. Is there anything I can do for this? Any help would be appreciated. By the way, this does not happen when using software shading, but then I obviously I lose my increased editor performance.

If it doesn't happen with SW shading, it's obviously something to do with the graphics drivers. First call (as always) would be to check some updated drivers if available. You can also change the look of the cursor through the control panel of your OS, just in case another type of precision cursor might remedy the problem. Other than that...

knife and all the tools seem to work better for me if the mesh is bigger.
maken a car
if it's 6 grids wide tools our ruff
if it's 60 grids wide tools our smother.

Hmm. I'll try taking a look at my drivers when I get home and see if that does anything. Is there anyway to change to pointer just in Cinema 4d? JamesMK, you mentioned doing that. The pointer only blinks out when I use the knife tool and the regular arrow pointer changes to the cross pointer. However all other pointers work fine. ie the regular arrow pointer, the double square type pointer when you use extrude, bevel, ect. It's just that knife cross hairs pointer when the knife tool is being used that has problems. Rorrkonn, I don't think it has anything to do with my mesh. I've tried it on all different types of meshes and I still have the same issue. Thanks anyways.

To change the mouse cursor, you use the mouse settings in the control panel (assuming you're on windows....) That is a system global change of course. I don't think there's any way to do it specifically in C4D. The cursor you're looking for is the so called precision cursor. Just as an experiment, you can change it to some other type and see if it helps at all.

Updated the video card driver and that fixed things. Thanks for everyone's help!
