Is there anything i can do to speed up my computer...
any tip or tricks to make OGL faster?

This is the biggest complaint people have at my work is that MAX is too slow to do their work... So they are trying to get the bosses to switch to Maya or XSI...

I am opposed to that of course because I love MAX ....

Every time someone says "oh MAX sucks you can't do that in MAX but I can do it in Maya....." I have to prove them wrong... which I am constantly doing...

but the complaint about it just being slow I can't disprove... Unless anyone out there knows how to speed up the OGL....

anyone??

Umm... Which graphic cards?

The problem in Max isn't OpenGL, it's the modifier stack. Max 5's viewport rendering is a bit faster on my computer than Maya's. The problem in Max is when you start piling up modifiers in your scene Max slows to a crawl. That's something you can't really do anything about other than trying to keep your uncollapsed modifiers to a minimum.

That too but don't fool yourself... max's OGL is way slower than it should be.

If you have access to xsi or maya try this... make a sphere in max and apply meshsmooth with like a billion iterations... or at least until it get's nice and slow... then collapse to a single mesh with no modifiers. Mesh or Poly.

Now move it

Open that exact mesh in XSI... hey, it's realtime!

No modifiers applied. This is my only REAL complaint about Max. Ah well... hopefully soon

run in 16 bit colour instead of 32 bit. 4X speed up

unless you have a card that explictly supports it uncheck the option for dual planes.

make sure you dont have a crap driver set, some nVidia drivers cause a 10 sec delay when opening the material editor.

if that doesn't work then post some more detail about what is slow? animating or modelling? what modifers used etc etc? Card and drivers used?

go to the discreet forum and ask the same thing
