This is my first posting on CG Talk, so please try to leave enough of me to post again. Thanks!

On to the poster! I am going to be printing this out at 24inX18in and hanging it on my dorm room wall once I get back to the University. Swashbuckler Jones is the main character for a short animation that I have been planning and working on piece by piece this summer. I have been animating him recently, running many tests. This image started out as an animation, and turned into more of a stylized pose...Please let me know what you all think of this image. I'm rather nervous! Thank you! :applause:

The only comment I have, is that the entrance to the cannon is oval. Might have problems placing the Projectiles.

Ahh, I think the ovalness of the cannon opening is just the angle, I will check into it nonetheless! Thank you. I appreciate the positive comments, I'm glad other people do like this. I had fun with it!

The first thing I have to notice is the sword, it's too bright. Also there are some places that have that problem too (bottle labels for example). They attract too much attention on them, being unnecessary.

Those bottles in the left look flat. You can try to add volume to them with some darken gradients from the edges. And there's a obvious lack of shadows in this area.

DOF is superfluous here, because it creates a "modern", "CG effect".

Composition is good, but it's too "modern" too. Usually, in those times were filming with a "flat" angle, from the front for example. Hope you understand me :) Try to examine some photos from the beginning og the century.

Anyway, very nice work, and really great post processing work  I like it much!

WOw Anton, thank you! That's a lot of stuff to take in. I think you have a valid point with each one of those critique's. I agree that the DOF doesn't fit with the time period, but also, that is why I like the CG world, as I can do whatever I wish, whether it was possible or not. It does give the picture a bit of a modern look...like an old scene shot with a modern camera. Perhaps that keeps it interesting enough to draw attention.

The sword Is extremely bright, in fact I didn't really notice it until this morning (it is my desktop background) and then I opened up CG Talk and there you were. I'm not really sure why the sword and that one bottle in the front are being so much brighter than the rest!

My dad is into genealogy stuff, and I do believe he has many old photos, so I will surely paw around in them and see what I can get from them. Thanks again for the critique, it is exactly what I was looking for!
