Hello guys ...

... I've got some problems with max and it's selections that bothers me then and now.

My problem is - I'm in poly sub mode and I have one polygon selected that I'm now seeing from the backside ... when I try to select a polygon with CTRL pressed that is facing me and that therefor is closer to me than the already selected one, max is rather deselecting the polygon that is farther away and even with it's backside towards me than selecting the closer one which is facing me ... why does max behave that unlogical?
The sam problem goes for polygons that are all facing me ... when I try to additionally select the closer polygon with CTRL pressed max is rather deseleting the farther away one that selecting the closer .... :(

Any solutions for that problem ...

Thanks in advance ... Sammy.

well sometimes this "illogical" thing is better...sometimes makes you scream a lot!!

Hey Gonzaga, do you know about the ignore backfacing option? It's in the top of the editable poly rollout. That will solve most cases like this, unless you have several "layers" of polygons facing the same way.

cheers,
CML

Thanks guys ... well I'm aware of the backface toggle and that solves things sometimes ... but as I mentioned that problem also occurs when you have several polygons facing you but are overlapping ... I guess that's what you meant by speking of "layers" ... anyway seems as if that's just a thing to live with ... there should be a selection mode like WYSIWYG ... :)

Greetz and thanks ... Sammy.

I'm having the same problem with the paint selection tool - and YES, I have 'ignore backfacing' checked. Selecting polys on a sphere that are facing you also selects polys on the BACK of the sphere?!?! Somebody please bring sanity to this madness....

I got around that problem by using a large monitor and installing a second monitor.
I can enlarge the view of the mesh on the main (big) monitor and put the tools window on the second monitor.
I then have enough view size to comfortably work on the mesh.

So that's the way of bug-fixing I like ... get a free second monitor from discreet ... :) .. just kidding ... the point is that it's not a problem of monitor resolution but rather a mere viewport problem ... I guess there are a lot of things discreet can improve about viewport interaction and geometry display in the future ... look what XSI, Modo or Silo can managa in terms of interactivity ... waiting for things to happen ...

Thanks to all ... going to buy 4 monitors now ... :) ... Greetings Sammy.

I find it far more annoying when I try to select on object, and max instead selects an object BEHIND it... http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/shrug.gif
It's especially irritating when one object is very very clearly in front of another, so that it's not a matter of resolution or anything.

Gee, sorry I'm so stupid. I'll just lurk instead of trying to help from now on.

Hey Uzik ... no need to be upset ... I was just joking about the situation ... not about you ... I thank everyone who can add some experiences to this thread ...

Greetings Sammy.
