Hello, Texture artists,

As a character Modeler, I am having lots of trouble trying to paint the color map for KEVLAR for a soldier character and I have NO IDEA how to paint it so it can be seen, seeing that it is a very fine material. Hopefully, someone can give me a little insight to painting it...

Here is a current texture I am working on. The encircled area is the KEVLAR I want to paint. (You can give an opinion on the texture as well...although it is not complete) :)

I had to do kevlar textures a couple of years ago for a spacesuit, and I found that photographs of rough, very matte canvas did the trick. The cool thing about canvas is that it's very easy to get suitable photographs of because it doesn't reflect light much, so you can get good, clear shots of it without having to rework the photographs digitally to remove lighting.

So, I guess the use of the Texturizer Filter is in play for this texture...but of course hopefully I can probably use a little bit of noise on the bump map for the KEVLAR vest. thanks Leigh...

I did something similiar once and went with texture baking.

Started with a basic B&W tilable weave pattern that I made in Photoshop.
From just that, I made the entire material. That is, I took the pattern and manipulated it several different ways for the different maps.
Then baked it all out.
Back to PS for some finishing touches.

Have you considered using a carbon fibre texture? Kevlar, as far as I have seen, is typically a smoother type surface, with no real obviuos "grain". Sounds like carbon fibre is actually the look you want. Sorry if I'm wrong in my assumption. I'm not able to attach the texture that I have, but I think it would help.

Hey, what's up Buddy...

I have already figured out what I want for my KEVLAR. and I choose the smooth type since it is easy to get great specular effects... if I could post a MOV file, I would, but I do not have a website.
