hello everybody

i hope you fine people could give me some useful advice since i'm not that much of a computer exprert here :p

i'm a lightwave user and most of the time i'm running also photoshop when i have LW open, so that slows my computer down quite a bit...the rendering is in times slow also

on this moment i have a intel pentium 4 a 2.53

and 2x 256RAM

my mobo is this one -> http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/sv/

i have been saving the money i made with some small website projects and with that money i would like to buy me a new mobo and new cpu

i was thinking about buying a 3.2 and a mobo that is good enuff to last me a few years and that would be up to date even in a few years (i don't even know if there are mobos like that since the computer industry is always comming up with new things)

there are people that tell me to not by a new cpu and mobo but to just whaight like a year or so since chaning my cpu and mobo isn't going to be much of a difference in speed.if i would buy a new mobo and upgrade from a 2.53 to a 3.2 that would be a big waste of money...is this so?

i'm running an old screen so instead of wasting my money i got the advice in spending my money on buying a good new tft screen....now this is making me a litl confused ...i really would like a new mobo and cpu but if its a waste of money i rather invest in a new screen .

what do you think is the best option ...is it indeed not smart to buy a new cpu and mobo and better to whate till like next year or so?

and iff i would buy me a new screen what screen do you recomand...i have this folder from NEOVO but they are kind of expensive over here.

thnx for the help

well ...

a new screen isn't going to boost your performance, but a tft is nice :)

but if you're looking to boost performace, then that's another matter.
what's your budget?

you might benefit from more memory, if you chuck out the ones you got and get 2gb(2x1gb), but that'll be more or less a short term fix.

if you're going to wait for new technology, then you might as well wait forever.

i upgraded this past week to this:

Pentium 560
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-116-181&depa=1

Asus P5GDC-V Deluxe
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-131-508&depa=0

Kingston DDR2 PC3200 1GB RAM
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-144-156&depa=1

Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=22-135-106&depa=1

Antec 480 watt Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-103-924&depa=0

nVidia Quadro FX1300
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-133-117&depa=1

all for about $1800 and add another $100 for a good case and you're on your way.

i'm sure you can get an comparable AMD setup with a similar price, which ever's best for your applications. and you can save probably a couple hundered bucks if you went with a 3.4 or 3.2 pentium (or a lower priced AMD chip)

i don't know if this setup will be the absolute best for your applications, but i'm pretty sure it'll run them damn well (whether it's intel or amd)

now if $1500-$1900 isn't within your budget, you can probably find cheaper variations on what i've menioned.

there are special bundles (http://www.newegg.com/app/combspecial.asp) on www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com) that are very attractive indeed, all under $600 (which is at least what you'll be spending on a good lcd monitor).

try to keep the memory at least 1gig though, because you'll really need it with these kinds of applications.

i wouldn't think getting an LCD will improve your workflow, unless of course you're using an old 14" 800x600 CRT.

hope this helps, good luck on whatever you decide.

cheers

hey Fahad

thnx for youre reply

ok i forgot to mension the budget i have is a student budget :D...i got about 400Euros to spend i know its not that much but thats why i have to make a choice....its either the new mobo and cpu OR drop the mobo and cpu and go for a tft screen...

first i was going for the new mobo and cpu but then people started telling me that it wouldn't make much of a difference upgrading from a 2.53Ghz to a 3.0 or 3.2Ghz

annother options and a much better one would be according to the people i spoke just put in more memmory the results would be much better than just a new mobo and cpu ....

when i'm going for the new mobo and cpu that means i will also have to buy memmory and that would be a litl hard since its even going to be a ltl more for the cpu and mobo....putting more memmory on the mobo i got know i don't know if i will take advantage of it my mobo .... http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/sv/ i dont know that much about computers and all them GHZ ,DDR memmory and what not stuff.

so i'm having heavy thoughts on what to do you know...so i got to this point where i started thinking to just drop the idea of the new mobo and cpu and just go for a new screen since the one i got is pretty old (still working tho) but its big and would save lots of space on my desk.

i don't know what to do :banghead:

well .. if you are going to upgrade later, get a tft.

though i really think you'll benefit more from extra RAM
according to the site, your motherboard needs this kind of RAM:

Two 184-pin DDR SDRAM DIMM sockets
Support for single-sided or double-sided DIMMs (DDR 333/266)
Support for up to 2 GB† system memory

since there are only 2 slots, you should get either 2x512MB sticks (1GB total), or 2x1GB(2GB total) which ever you can afford. which unfortunatly means you'll have to throw away your current memory. see what fits your budget, and go with that.

I know a new TFT monitor seems like a good idea, but then you won't benefit as much, performance-wise.

lots

Using lightwave, i wouldnt buy a quadro... I'd spend less money on a gaming card, as there is little benifit from quadros in lw..
