View Full Version : Mental Ray Selective One Sided Objects...
Jackdeth 11-09-2004, 07:47 PM In my never ending quest to make render times even smaller, I was wondering if anyone had ever found a hack to get around the limiting global control of picking which side of an object to render. As much as I love the controls in the render globals,, I was thinking there must be some way to do... kind of like how you can do selective AA settings with dynamic attributes.

Can you go through the render flags on a per object basis and turn off double sided,so it only renders the normal face.
Just trying to help.

That doesn't work in mentalray.

Sorry.
How about mib_twosided. Leaving the back black would disable it from being rendered?

Jackdeth: You got me thinking and I came up with a MR shader (JS_Oneside) that lets you choose which side to render. Normal or Inverted Normal.
Maybe itīll help. It needs MR 3.3 or later.
You can get it at my site: www.sandstrom.on.to (http://www.sandstrom.on.to)

I got the files, but your website is acting wierd. I'm trying to download the shader to get the other files and some ad for 100WebSpace.com pops up everytime I click on any of your shaders! But luckily the right mouse button save target still works.
back to compliling....
**UPDATE**
You got mail...

I have the files on 100webspace so its not totally wierd. But Ill email them and ask about it.
As you said, you can still right click and choose "Save target as" to get them.
