Quick little piece, got a bit bored when doing it, so it's not very good.

One is supposed to be holding a bucket and spade, but that pretty much failed, oh well here it is. About an hour of photoshoppy with the mousey. Oh and androgs that's pretty damn funky =]

I woke up at 5am this morning so the creative part of my brain is pretty much in a coma right now... but I wanted to sketch anyway. First thing that popped in my head was that Aaliyah song... and I've been wanting to try a portrait so here it is.

45 minutes / Photoshop / Wacom Intuos3 9x12 / photo ref used (not paintover) (http://www.komixcity.sk/rip/rip.files_/aaliyah.jpg)
Struggling with digital painting... but I will get it one of these days. :banghead:

P.S. - Does this fall into that no-no of a "tribute" / non-original composition since it was painted looking at a pic? If so, I'll delete it.

DigitalSkunkwrx - if that's you "trying to get the hang of it" I can't wait to see your stuff when you DO get the hang of it. That rocks!

No I don't think its against the rules to use a photo ref and do a portrait.

Absolutely beautiful, man!

Robin - Thanks! I am glad you all like my stuff. It can be pretty intimidating around here (and on CGTalk in general) with all the superb art flying around. I suppose I am too critical on myself sometimes. I guess what I meant is that it is frustrating trying to "re-learn" everything in digital format... I am pretty comfortable with traditional media (that's why I've been doing lots of those pencil sketches using ArtRage!) But especially with trying to do digital painting, I struggle with muddiness, overlapping and trying to find my workflow. I just need to practice practice practice... and that's why I've joined in on the daily sketch fun! I used to pump out sketchbooks left and right in highschool... but since then I have gotten away from it... so this is the best thing to keep me drawing (almost) everyday.

ApricotSoup - I like your abstract figures... all the headroom you gave them yearns for a distant hill or horizon showing the crowd of "millions" extending indefinitely. Maybe one or two in the foreground on the sides to almost put you "into" the crowd would be a nice touch as well.

Androgs- Beautiful! I would love to live in a city (or arcology?) like that in the future.

Thanks for the comments people, DigitalSkunkwrx I kinda gave up on the piece, there should be something up there to fill the gap but sloth is a strong vice. Was originally going to be something either really tall or jumping to fill the gap but I settled on that in the end.

Ok, here's mine. I think this time I'm not late, hehe. :)

Hope you like it! Photoshop 7, 2 hours 20 minutes. Focused at the lucky meaning of "one in a million". (It does have a lucky meaning, doesn't it?) In fact, this guy is twice as lucky, cause he's found one of those 4 leaf clovers, hehe. :D

Hey calzoncillos, I like your style, and that exact thing happened to my Grandpa when he was a kid, swinging on an old power line. Lucky for me that mattress saved his life, eh? Good work!
