View Full Version : Can this PC that I won on a contest run MAYA 6. 01?
alexru1z 11-09-2004, 05:58 AM Ok, I won a koobox deluxe pc in a contest, here is the system info: http://koobox.com/indexDELUXE.html
I have the one on the right with the deluxe package. Here is the problem, I am trying to run Maya on this pc, but it crashes without error messages when I load it, it loads ok, but when it gets to the white Maya 6 panel, Maya crashes. Could it be the video card? What video card should I buy then? It is an Intel Celeron, I have no clue how fast intel celerons are, are they slower than pentium 4? How can I upgrade this pc so I can run Maya for doing long renders and complex scenes? And is it worth to upgrading my pc, how much would it cost me? Thanks and waitng for answers......:)

Hi Alex,
Its all the problem due to onboard graphics.
If u are into learning Maya, then go for a good geforce card and softmod it to quadro.

if you upgrade the vid card it would probably help, id say at least a 9800pro, youll have to make sure that mother board even has an agp slot. For complex scenes youll probably want at least a gig of ram especially since im sure that ram is slower ram, celeron is not as fast as a p4 or most of them anyway, if you are really intrested in doing alot of rendering and major complex scenes this computer isnt going to keep up with you. sorry but if you are new and just working with semi simple scenes you will probably be fine with new vid card and more ram.

If you are going to use maya! You don't want to buy ati ’gaming’ card!

You wont find a workstation card for the same price that will work better than it.

may be a good idea, i have a 9600pro and a 9800pro 256, I have only had one problem with mine, on one project I couldnt maximize a viewport with out it lagging for 5 mins then going back to the 4 viewport layout immediatly, could have been just a one time thing but I have heard from a few differentt people that others are having troubles with ati. Other than that one night thing I havnt had any troubles at all.

Thank you everyone for your help! I guess it really is the video card because the one I have right now can't even run a simple 3d screensaver http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/shrug.gif. I will be buying a video card, but I don't want it to go over $200 since I also have to buy more ram. I also had a very bad experience with the ati card on my laptop, everytime I tried to run a game it crashed the whole computer, so I won't be buying an Ati no matter what. I have been told that Nvidia is pretty good, but which one, there are so many......
