View Full Version : Picasso's Portrait Project

My first post in the new forum.

This is a new project that I started as part of an advertisement but because of the copyright, I can't use Picasso's image or likeness for comercial purposes but I still can use it as part of my personal portfolio. So, I decided to change the advertisement and keep this work, trying to finish it in the next weeks. Everything done using ZBrush 2.0 (modeling with ZSpheres, textures, shaders and render). I used few photos as reference but not used as blue-prints. Everything is an observation exercise. For this model I used Sokar's SSS shader based in the 4-shader and you can download this great shader from Pixolator forum. I just changed the shader a little to fit best in my work but even the normal version is already a great work from Sokar. I used 5 different shaders in this head, from less to more specular and the specularity/material was painted on-the-fly over the surface of the model. I'll publish a step-by-step after the conclusion of this work. So, be patient and soon I'll explain how to create a result like this using just Zbrush. ZBrush Rocks!

You started this with Zspheres? I would be interested to see your setup, is it just the standard way that most people start heads?
What a great skin shader, I will have to look into that one.

Some more details:

- Everything using a simple setup of ZSpheres that I'll show in the tutorial.
- Mouth and eyes are holes that I've created by deleting these faces in the low-poly model,
- Everything in the model was hand painted (model itself and textures/shaders),
- Until this point, this model took me about 5 days of work and two more days to correct the anatomy trying to make closer to my photo references,
- Subdivision level at this point: 7 (a bit more than 2 mi polys).

About the copyrights, yes, I heard that even in USA I can have problems with the use of his image for comercial purposes. But no problem because I used this head as base for another character and I kept the same idea for the advertisement :)

I'm working hard in the studio and my spare time is almost just in my weekends but my intention is try to finish it in the next weeks and start to compile the tutorial after.

wow very nice...i really like the skins wrinkled areas very nice..some of the best zbrush skin i seen before..i'll have to take a looking into the sokar shader anyways...looking forward to seeing your tut...seen some of your older tuts before and all very useful stuff.
its a shame the copyright issue..but i guess its the way of the world now...at least you can show us as a personal work which is not all bad news....:thumbsup:

Hey Antropus,

I'm always amazed by your work, it's just awesome!

But somethings bugging me here, the anatomy doesn't seem right: I'm concerned about the cheekbone area, it looks like he wouldn't have any cheekbones, the whole side of his face seems a little flat - especially in the front view.

Other than that, it's amazing - You never stop to impress me! Hope you still have time to work on Senzaazione, I loved these characters!

Kris, I commented on this one over on ZBCentral as well, but just noticed you'd posted it here too... all I can say is wow! I love it :) Your work just gets better and better with each new piece. It's just unfair that someone can consistently produce such incredible work :cry:

Needless to say, I'm certainly looking forward to the tutorial for this! I'm so impressed that this was done with ZSpheres... as someone who is still coming to grips with ZBrush this just blows me away.
