View Full Version : Why is this happening to me.. oh God..
ArtificialWings 11-08-2004, 05:15 AM I probably spent 6 hours collectively at my computer modelling my guitar, and I was about 80% done when cinema 4d Crashed (it does this alot, especially when I use the rotate tool). I guess I must've saved RIGHT AS IT CRASHED but, now when I try to open my file I get "Incorrect File Structure." Oh please god someone help me.. how can I get my guitar back.. I'm so angry right now..

You can't
On the other hand you've learnt a valuable lesson. Turn on the backup option and save files incrementally. ie. dont just keep hitting the save button blindly overwriting the old file all day.

I am sure this is no consolation... but
Unless you are a seasoned modeller/animator, most anybody should be able to go back and recreate what they modelled or animated in half the time. (Is that a little too optimistic?) I've done it before.
So much time wasted on the little tweaks or snags that later on can be fixed or remedied in just a few minutes. I know it sucks (been there) but I am guessing that you can recreate in not as much time and it will be even better. Restarting never hurts as much as that first click to place a box (or whatever) in the scene..
Good luck with the file though.

I have been there, too--no chance to get it back--nowadays I save happily with 20 backup copies in preferences---
this is not only nice oin case of data structure corrupt, but also when you have this--damn when did I accidentally delete these polys in the back of the character--moments--

Hi ArtificialWings - that's really tough, I know exactly how you feel, I guess this has happened to everyone at some stage.
There is a preference, in 'Document' - create backup copies - this would have saved the file as it was last saved before the crash. I think it's on by default? If there are any files called "---.bak" try opening these in Cinema.
I don't know what's wrong with your install though, Cinema rarely crashes for me and certainly not with simple rotate actions, you might want to sort this out before going any further. What platform, OS and how much RAM are you working with

Thanks for the help guys.. I restarted last night.. *ugh* but this is where I am so far. I've set the backup thing in my preferences and I re-installed cinema 4d (it seemed to have fixed the CONSTANT FREEZES and it has yet to freeze!)

Looks good. And if it fixes the freezing problem it'll be the best thing that could've happened.

You didn't say which version of cinema and what OS - but I used to have crash problems on my old comp. Shutting down all the junk programs and periodic rebooting helped avoid crashes
