View Full Version : Texturing Tools
Animare 08-23-2002, 04:32 AM Hi just some advice,
First off, I am very basic with uvw mapping and texturing etc, bitmap texturing. I was wondering would it do me harm in getting something like Deep paint or Bodypaint or is it better to get a grasp of uvw properly before I go on to such things...
And with these Deep paint/ Body paint, I've been reading reviews of them but which one is better anyone out there who uses them?
Also I was told that combustion can sorta replace these tools is that true?

Ill help you out where ican here...
Ive only used Deep Paint, and I recommend you download a copy of Deep UV. When It was textuure weapons I played with the demo and learnt alot more about working with UVs than I could in max. I found I could apply the theorys Texture weapons had straight back into Base package of Max.
A colleague said that Body paint was good, but was really weak in the UVW editing compaired to Deep Paint and Deep UV.
Combustion has some material that you can paint from within and lively export back to max (similar to Deep Paint). Though again I havent used it so I dont really know.
I enjoyed my play with deep Paint, but found it really struggeled with high res work. But this was before deep Pain2.0 I havent tried this at all. they should have downloadable demos you can grab off their site. I fully recommend you do that too.
Good Luck...
BTW make sure you also have a play with Deep Paint 2d, tonnes of fun

Cool man thanks, yeah good texturing is something i really want to get into I love those ultra detailed renders. Im a bit confused I thought Deep Paint and Deep UV was the same thing? Like Deep UV was a newer version? So theres Deep Paint(main program) Texture Weapons(extra texture tools) and Deep UV(?)
Thanks again, I will take your advice and download the demo and have a play..shame the student ver is so expensive would have loved to bought a cheap version to learn.
Ps I like your bug avatar thing you got any other shots of that?

First It was Deep Paint
Then, they created the addon texture weapons for uv editing
Now, texture weapons has evolved in a new program called Deep UV(that communicates seamless with deep paint). Deep paint 2.0 alone now does not have uv editing

I would say learn about UVWs, there is a lot that you can do on your own with just Max and a painting program to create custom textures for your models.
