Hi all

Im trying to get soft (blured) reflections in maya 5 using the dgs shader in MR.
No matter what i do i get a hot spot where your spec highlight would be even if its a lambert shader

I conneting the dgs to the shader group node under ->mental ray ->material shader, and flag "suppress all maya shaders"

I tried lots of variations also like the dgs to a blinns ambient or incandescence; no flag "suppress all maya shaders"

still the hot spot in the spec.

Any ideas??

The "hotspot" size and intensity is defined by the "shiny" and "glossy" parameters of the DGS shader. If you set shiny to a low value such as 1 or 2 it should be almost gone. (if you set it 0 you won't get any reflections) At the same time "shiny" also influences the blurriness of your glossy reflections. So, if you have such a low value for "shiny" you'll get very blurry reflections and a broad highlight.

Hope this helps. I'm under Maya 6 but it should be the same in Maya 5...
