CGTalk - Semi-expert mode

I apologise for a barrage of questions in one day. It's just I took a what's new in max 5 class at work today and the instructor was very good but didn't know certain things I'm interested in.

Is there a way to work in max 5 in expert mode with just main toolbar and meshtools docked to the buttom, and command pannel showing? They've changed some shortcuts and I couldn't make main toolbar visible at all if it's docked on the buttom (Alt-6 supposedly).

Sure can... just make the toolbar visable>go to expert mode and dock it.

From there just right click on the tool bar and hide and stuff.... :)

actually I just tried to make sure and it was givin me problems when they were on the bottom. Like it docks below the timeline :(

They work good on the sides of the screen though :)

You know, when I dock toolbars to the bottom in expert mode they just disappear, just have outlines. Maybe it's a driver issue. I'll try to switch the drivers.

Heres somthing that has been bugging me today,

running in X-mode, if I open up the track thing at the bottom (Really cool addition BTW) and do my keying animating etc, sweet. Well I have keys bound to hiding and showing my track BAR and track SLIDER that are usually on the interface. If I hit these and toggle these features back on, it shows but you cant touch them or move them or anything useful....very frustrating.

BTW for you expert moders out there...incase you didnt know you can boot max up in expert mode if you want.

in this directory,

/3dsmax5/scripts/startup/

make a txt file and rename it Expert.ms (can be anything at all..like chicken.ms

open it in a text editor like notepad, and enter the following:

actionMan.executeAction 0 "40264"

When max boots itll read all the scripts in that folder and sure enough it will kick you straight into Expert mode.

there are other ways Im told but thats the one I use.
