The best way to do a gold shader is:

1. Use a blinn shader
2. Select a yellow to brown color
3. In the reflection slot use a chrome enviroment map
4. Put the refraction value to 10-20 and use raytracing, of course
5. Use a good enviroment map in the camera plane so it reflect on the metal.
6. in the filter option for the image reflected try to blurr it a little
7. If that doesnt work for you just let me know your email address and i will send one i did myself.

vancliff well i tried it out but i kinda got lost on the env map. coz when i put it no reflection of the image came on the surface. i may have done some mistake i guess coz i wasn't quite gettin the gold look. my email id is devil666reborn@hotmail.com

put the environment map in reflection colour.

Also turn your specular eccentricity up to 10 (maybe a bit lower)
and your specular roll off to 0.1 or something similar for all metals.
Plus the diffuse needs to come down a whole lot.

but as Pai Mei said download the one from highend and fiddle with that.
