View Full Version : render pass in render view?
paul.yan 11-06-2004, 01:30 AM I've just begun using maya's render layer passes and it's pretty straightforward. One thing though - I've only been able to render out specific passes with the batch render, can I, for example, render only the specular pass in the Render View?

That'd be cool.
There is a plugin to help with layers but I havent seen as yet one for render view.
There is a script(s) I just got from high end that has options for render view but nothing for layers.:surprised

The render layers are very flakey, and sometimes the seperate passes don't even seem to be able to be recombined to from the beauty pass. Use sperate files. Its a pain in the ass, but atleast you will have lots more control.

I know I asked before about this and got it started with Refencing Files to brake up a scene into elements for seperate "passes". The problem I am running into is how exactly to set up shaders and lights for each of these Files. I am not sure how. I have a master scene with everything ready to render Using 2 Spots, a dome liight with HDR, final gather and so on.
The problem I am running into is I have some transparent materials in front of opage materials (headlights) I am not sure if every file needs tranparency for (reflection pass, specular pass, color pass and so). Even further since I am using lights with HDRI Should I only use Lights in one of the elements, then the HDRI for the other or always keep them combined.
More cumbersome is for example I have lots of shaders, Turning off emit specular on my lights would work for a Color Pass, but with the HDRI image I need to Change every shader.
Basically what I am asking for is some help on how you would manage materials and lights as well as alpha channel and masks for braking up a scene into files of there respected passes.
I did read around, I have the didtial lighting book and been to Jeremy site's. I am just a little confused mainly with Masks (Black Hole,Opcaity) and what attributes should be off or on on shaders, I though it would be straight forward turining off color and diffuse to get a reflection pass, but I must be doing something wrong.
Anyway Thanks.
