Ok, this is all. I am very glad becouse I learn a lot in this contest but at the same time I am a little sad becouse I cant render my last image whit all the stuffs I want. I need to get a better computer and maybe in the next contest I will obtain better results.

Good, but you should work a little more on your concept, at the moment there isnt really much happening, just floating spaceships.

Add a bit more difference to the image, different styles of ships etc, an expansive background, some focal point.

Keep working at it.

Considering Sorta has nos sun, or any source of light other than the stars, these mirror objetive is to reflect and concentrate the distan light from the srars.

Que fue! (Hello)

Nice modeling, and creative idea for the towers. I agree that there is no structure according to composition, no background. Maibe you could include a planet or other ships in space...

Snakefarlow,
You models are coming along fine and I liked your initial sketch. I am thinking this could be floating cities traveling in space looking for a home planet. You could have the floating city approaching a planet( very large in the scene) and this is the home they have been looking for. They have been living this nomadic life for 10 generations so at this moment in time their search is over. Just a thought that came to my mind seeing your sketch.
Keep up the good work.

nice idea and cool models

it would look cool if you had a part of an atmosphere in the lower background!

Are these things flying up or just floating?
If they're just floating in the mid air... these things would be a massive waste of energy with the afterburners turned on 27/7 ;) j/k

Hi.

Sorta is a city thas is looking for a planet. So most of the time the citie is floating, but when they find something spacial, they turn on the flames and start flying. Think about a ship in the ocen whit no fuel, and it is looking for land, part of the time this ship only floats in the sea becose the capitan doesnt want to waste the fuel, but finaly he could sea a land, the he turn on the engine and raise the speed to reach the only hope he has seen in many months.
This idea is the same, only I havent make an sckech with all the elements together.

Thank for the advice.

ENG:
Your story looks great! You have to find the way to represent your story in one single image. Youve got lots of potions: You may show the asteroid crashing on earth, or the space city arriving to the new planet, or humans landing on the planet...The thing is that your idea is made!

I was thinking about how the people in this city I'm creating could breathe:sad: . They wont survive a day if they dont figure a way to generate oxigen. So I decided to create this huge lumb that generate suficient oxigen for the city. It consist in a big structure with plataforms in diferens levels that holds forest. All the CO2 that is produced by the city is send to this structure, then the trees make his job and return the oxigen. Is like a ecosistem that works with the aid of tecnology.

I will send a first modeling of these lumbs in six hours.

I hope you enjoy it.

I think a forced perspective is always something to look into Andres.........A camera angle with a slight upwards tilt in this case.......Possibly skewed to just off center, angled to one side of your choice.........Sometimes just getting a portion of certain models can work too, just giving the viewers a glimpse of more to the sides..........conveying more size and giving you more of a grand feel.........Ok,looking good, just keeping playing with those views, they can be trickey, but sooner than later it will fit...........I'll see you for now......Good luck...........:arteest:

Hello SnakeFarlow, here I am, as you asked! :)

I've read your concept, and I must say I like it very much.

However, looking at your great modeling work, I imagine the all scene a little diferent:

I would put the camera in the ground of the planet which the city chosse to "land", pointing up to the sky, watching the city lands".

I don't know what kind of planet it should be, that's your job, :) but I imagine it inhabited by some creatures trying to hide or running away from those BIG "things" coming down from the sky.

Sorry if my suggestion is not so helpful, but that's how I imagine it.

Best luck

Hi there! Nice stuff, I like the lumbs, but I would make them a little bit smaller, but much more of them around. As far as the scene composition is concerned, I like your last picture. I would only add much more ships and cities, also in the background. So that it look like a real massive and grand migration or journey...
Good luck! I will be watching you:)

Nice idea but you have to improve this "rusty sad look", if thers people inside you have to show it and light all this with some nice spots. You can add vegetation, entertainment areas, etc.

Hello !

I like very much the ambiance and the modeling.
I agree with Nomad for the rust.. exept, in space, no oxygen = no rust !
For the planet, it seems a bit clear or illuminated to me, I suggest just a little less luminosity on it, but a slight glow on the surface should be nice...

Tanks for the advice, I will iluminate the buildings, that will be interesting. About the light of the planet you are absolutly right, I will change the lustre. About the rust, I may no oxigen, but the oxigen is not the only agent that cause the rust. And considering that has been many time in the space, i think it could be rust superfices.

Thanks a lot, for your coment.

Hi,

Your entry is coming along nicely. I didn't catch the story, but it seems like people are living in outer space now right? Does that mean that the Earth can no longer hold people? If so, I think it would be cool to have the earth in the background look dead. So, these cities in outer space have to constantly be reminded of the dead earth behind them.

Some minor things to consider: The perspective is a bit too tight. I feel like the earth and the ships are all too close together, maybe some type of atmospheric distortion (even though there isn't atmospher in space) , but just making thing less saturated as they go back would give this effect. Your textures are looking nice, so I'd stick with the plan on that, but maybe add lights here and there. Lastly, it needs something to give us a sense of scale. Can't really tell how big things are.

Ok, hope some of that helps make your entry a super success! peace out!

Hi. Hiespike. Thank to enter my forum.

The story tell that they left their planet many time ago, and now they are looking for a new planet, i decided that that planet would be the earth, becouse imagine what will happen one day when you look at the sky and see a lot of those tower coming into your planet. You are right about the perspective, I am still looking for an apropiate camera. About the scale, you can see some trees inside one of the towers in the first plane. I don´t add lights yet, and the starships fliying among the city will reforce the scale of the towers.

Your coment has help me a lot. Thanks.

Hey hey, i'm liking your modeling!! I don't know if you are using a background image or if you modeled the Earth, if you are using a background image, i think that you should choose a diferent one, that allows you to illuminate the scene in a better way in order to match your light with the one in the image.

If you are using a model, better, this way you can illuminate the scene with no problems. I know that at this time you are only rendering just to show your models, but in the future, choose very well the light direction for you to take the maximum advantage of you scene.

Keep on Andres!!

The stuff you do is simple but has some solid design quality in them. The color scheme is quite nice, but maybe you can consider having some lighter bits as well just to define the shape a bit more, because at the moment it seems a little bit dark, just a little :). Good job overall

Cheers!

Looking good. Have you considered placing a point light on the thrusters to make them pop more? Maybe even a glow.

Hi everyone and tanks for your coments.

BEBETE LANUITE : I don't know if you are refering to the ship or the towers, anyway, the front part of the explorer ship is the one where the numbers are. And the towers... they dont have a front part, becouse they are part of a big city, so they can move anywhere they need. The towers never fly alone, those i am showing are only render test, in the final image all the tower are join by ducts, and they move together.

FARIDZ7 : Yes many times, I am working in the dirty surfaces, maybe in my next update you will see the new texture I am working. Thanks for the advice.

Snows: Very good idea, thanks I will consider that in my next update.

Sorry for the delay. I have a problem with my computer, so I taked it to the shop to fix it.

Now I am working again, this is a test for the lumbs, I think I have a problem becouse those trees are from the 3Dstudio program, so I have to make my onw trees, this is only a test to show the idea.

Hi there! Nice to see you back. I like the update, but I have two suggestions... one is hte glow from engines, I don't like it to be honest, check this out: http://www.secondreality.ch/tutorials/effects/rocketfume/flame.html here there is a nice and quite realistic and easy glow effect. You can mix this idea with yours, and I think it would be even better. The second remark would be about the color of the station... I would rather go with more silver one. but this is only my opinion.
Keep the good work rollin' I'm waiting for more:twisted:

Nice to see the space garden. After 8 generations in
space you could use a cemetary too! Or am I nuts?
some asteroid holes and wear and tear and errosion from
constant bombardment by space dust and tiny asteroids that
otherwise would have been stopped by Earth's atmosphere.

Hi everyone.

I was thinking about my image, there was something I didn't like, It wasn't the tower, the ships, or any element of the scene, I only realise that It`ts nothing really happening there, Ok the tower and ships are arriving to a new planet, but there is not an interesting acción happening. So I decided to make some changes, I don't want to make a war, we already have a lot of those, but maybe some shoot and explotions could help. It won't be the earth any more, this is a new planet, I did this becouse I want that the city goes trougth a rain of asteroids, and around the earth are no asteroids.

The new scene will describe how the attackers ships have to destroy the asteroids to avoid any colition with the citie.
I hope this help the composition and add some action to my work.

I am open to any coment.

Hi, I find an easy way to make an asteroid texture, I use plastilin and make it some holes with a pen, and the back of a marker, then I scan it, and adjust it in the Pothoshop, save the image in grays, and use it like a bump.

I have some problems with the capacity of my PC, and I can't make the asteroids rain by clone and seed. So I have to create an special texture to simulate a rain of asteroids.

I made some asteroids with plastilin, and scan it. Then I taked that image to the photoshop, and fill the space whit black color, then the asteroids turn white, and add a texture of rocks in a layer back.
Then I put this images in the 3dstudio max material editor, and turn on the opacity and the bump with this maps.

Hey Andre,

The scene is coming along great, the asteroid texture trick worked great. Nice idea. Your space towers look good to , although they look maybe to clean. Is there a way you can add some turbulence or random noise to the shaders.

Hi there Andres!
Hey, nice texturing here, the dirt looks quite good!
But you should fix the repeating dirt texture on the long pipe to the right. Btw these golden plates need a bit bumpeenes, that should help to get a better look. Oh and imho the cylinder type looking geometry needs to be more round, thats just imho.
Hope i'm not criticising to much...

I was I little tired only sending 3d, so this will be very simple, I made this in Photoshop, Its a kind of collage. So i hope you like this.

Storyline 1: Sorta a peacefull planet.

This is Sorta, a planet that lived a lot of time in peace, they were very inteligent and his tecnology was amazing.

The people of Sorta has a lot of knowledge about astrology, and one day a scientis discover that a huge, very huge comet was coming to Sorta's orbit, they called this comet Ceuralex. Storyline 3: The making of the city-ship Sorta.

So... The comet was to big to destroy, and the comunity decided to create this huge city. A city with all the necesary to survive for 8 generations and fly away from this dying planet. The only problem was that not all the inhabitant could make this trip.

It has been 8 generations since Sorta City-ship leave the orbit of the lost planet. Now this people is dying, there are only a few left.

But in the colosal ocean of space, I new hope is rising, a red planes have been seen, there is still a little bit of fuel to achieve this goal, but the only problem it that tho hole city must go across an asteroid ring.
