edit:Found a good thread on the subject, no need for two ,but i f you woukd like to respond feel free to do so
Hi there! I’m in need of a good 3d render box for a class in 3d max 7. The class involves reactor and crowd animations, plus big, shiny textures :), so huge amounts of power are needed and my laptop is not up to the task any more…

This is the setup I’m looking at right now:
1 x Asus NCT-D Hovedkort Xeon 800FSB, Dual E7525, DDR2, SATA /IDE, ATX , GbLAN, PCI-E (product id: 90-MSV430-G0UAY) -the only pci express card i could finde aroud in local dealers and webshops.

1 x Western Digital Raptor 74GB S-ATA 8MB cache 10000RPM

2 x Intel Pentium 4 Xeon 3.2 GHz Boxed PC800 Socket 604, 1MB cache

alt 1:
1 x PowerColor Radeon X800PRO 256MB PCI-E PCI Express, GDDR3, VIVO/DVI, Retail

4 x Crucial DDR2 PC3200 512MB CL3 REG/ECC Registered, ECC/REG,1.8V,64Meg x 72, 240 (These can be run as dual channel, one pair pr CPU, right?)

alt 2: (and I think this is the better of the two):

4 x Kingston ValueR. DDR2 PC4200 1024MB CL4 Unbuf.,1.8V,128Meg x 72, 240pin, ECC
(These can be run as dual channel, one pair pr CPU, right?)

1 x Sapphire Radeon X600PRO 256MB DDR PCI Express, VIVO/DVI-I, Lite-Retail
The ram is the thing I’m most worried about. The Video card is just a temporary one in this setup(that is, it stays in just till I can fork out cash for a better one…)

I know very little about hw, so these setups probably aren’t very good. If some of you people have better components (in the same price range, about 3200 u.s.d. ) please help me :hmm:

hello there...

as i noticed on your spec, most of them are OK, for processor...Xeon with 800 FSB and equipped with Intel chipset E7525 will do the Job, but as for motherboard i prefer uses Tyan or Supermicro, and as for the Graphic Card the ATI X800 pro and X600 to me those are gaming card which has a different spec with Workstation VGA Card
Since you'll be consuming this spec for render node which the main task is to Render, fully loaded your Memory will be an advantage, VGA card will not boost your render speed, it's completely Processor,Memory and Hardisk task.

hope it will help a bit
