View Full Version : Frustrated LW veteran with Messiah

Frustrated LW veteran trying to learn Messiah. Before I can begin, I'm just trying to setup the interface to mimic LW as much as possible.

1. When I assign view presets to the number pad, and I re-start Messiah, those presets are gone. How do you make sure your view presets become default? And NO, it doesn't seem to work to click on "Store Views as Default". That would be too easy.

2. In LW I can click Shift-C, then move my camera into position with the left and right mouse buttons in a few seconds. In Messiah I have to get the mouse centered on these little dots on the orbit thingy, it takes 5 times as long. I can't figure out from the KeyCommand Manager how to assign actions to the right mouse button.

Advice to PMG: Many editing and graphics programs have User Profile setups. I wish Messiah had that. It would be nice if there was some kind of pre-made LW preset you could load into a user profile so that keyboard commands and views and other familiar similar items would use the same keystrokes that LW uses. That would save so much frustration.

1. View presets are saved with a scene file (.fxs) believe it or not :(, so just save a default scene with the views set up and load it in first ( not an ideal workaround but better than nothing ) before working. This is rumoured to change in the future ( maybe the next patch ? )

2. The keyboard shortcuts for activating the channel groups gadget ( the 'm', 'r' or 's' symbol in the centre of the edit sphere that allows movement, etc in 2 channels at once ) are broken in the current release :( , but the gadget still works. Press 1 on the keyboard to activate the x channel then click on the 'm' in the centre of the edit sphere. This will allow you to move on x/z at the same time ( left clicking on the 'm' will move in parent space, right clicking on it will move in local space ).

You could use Armatures for assigning actions to mouse buttons ( just did this for rotating the camera, but oddly translating the camera via an armature doesn't work from the camera view, only in the perspective / orthographic views ) but that's just another workaround....

Remember that the 1 - 9 keys on the keyboard, not the numeric pad, are shortcuts for activating the different motion channels in Messiah.

Agree with the user presets emulating other apps mouse controls, etc... This is especially important now since Animate / Studio link to other 3d apps.

Alan,

Thanks so much for that VERY valuable information. Especially about controlling the motion channels. That part of Messiah I find not intuitive in the least.
