kamrhon 11-04-2004, 03:50 PM I would like to do a wireframe render and a "Wireframe on Shaded" render but need a solution other than Playblast. Help anyone?

Can't you read your manual/help or use the search function on this site?

lol CIM, do you have a macro or something for posts like this? :D
But, kamrhon, I partially have to agree CIM.
To give you some hints: Try using the hardware render buffer with draw style 'Wireframe'. And check the option |Display> Component Display> Backfaces| to get rid of the backfaces. Comp the results over your actual render.

this forum is about 3 yrs old iirc,
did u ever thought about how many times this question has been asked, u think u are the only one who ever wanted wire renders.... did u try to search the forums first, or even other forums...
did u even press the F1 key on your keyboard to read the docs...
you have to help yourself first,
if u found no solutions,
then others can help you.
i dont think CIM meant to be rude ... some questions ppl can just take 2 seconds and read the docs or just search for answers.

No, but I should.

I am not sure how old "CIM" is but he or she needs to check there attitude. The main purpose for these forums is to get help, no matter what type of question is asked. It's very easy to discourage people not to come back to these forums. Less people less business for cgtalk.com.

Turning off back faces and doing a hardware render buffer dealy isn't always ideal, as you can have geometry with the normals facing you that might otherwise have been occluded by foreground geometry. You may have to sacrifice a little quality, but setting your viewport background colour to black, turning on wireframe on shaded, applying a black surface shader to all your geometry, and adding the geometry to a display layer with a white component colour (so all the wireframes are white) will give you a nice wireframe mask you can playblast and composite later.
You can get a pretty spiffy looking wire-on-shaded by combining that with a hardware render buffere rendered shaded sequence. Or even comp it on your final render.
