I hope it's ok to post this topic here, but when do these Daily Sketch events end (last submittal entry)? I noticed for #151, people are still posting their work.
I wish I could participate, but some of us work two jobs 5 days a week  . Perhaps some weekend I will, but the ol' comp needs to be re-situated and re-loaded.
Thanks in advance for the reply!

Fluffy, that's a powerful thought. As much as I want it to be untrue, it's true in usa. :( I have seen some people experiencing this. It's not fun at all.
Good concept btw Fluffy, keep it up! :D

Are split-ups/divorces less common in other countries? In the USA almost 50% of marriages end in divorce! Staggering numbers!...but I think its unfair to count people in Hollywood as part of that number - they get married and divorced on almost a weekly basis!! :)

well, daddys don't always leave due to divorses. my dad left when i was little to come to the US.
it would of been easier if it was a divorse as opposed to not seeing your father at all.
i hope this thread doesn't turn all depressing.
so here are some more positive scenarios:
daddy left to get all my x-mas presents
he is on a buisness trip
he is building me a tree house
he is a superhero or a spy
mom needs some time for herself
anyway.

do people see this image when they load the page. Or do you have to click on a link. If you have to click on a link, how do I make it so it just shows the image.
Cheers

Nothing really special. Just a fast sketch created using Painter, sketch pencil and some junky brush stuff. I am new to using a tablet so I still suck but i promise i will do something better next time. For now, "real" hand drawing is easier for me http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

"The day dad left for the war, I gave him Teddy. I told him to take it out and think of me whenever he got scared. He took it and hugged me. Mom started crying, and at the time I didn't know why. But now I know she was crying because she knew it could be the last time would ever see him... and it was."

40 minutes / ArtRage / Wacom Intuos3
* I spent about an hour and a half on this and was really liking it, but then ArtRage crashed and this was the last point at which I had saved it. :banghead:

Hi pistenbully,
you did a pretty good job there.
What you could do is add a lightrim to the boy (the light that's comming from the vehicles).
Hope you know what I mean, cos sometimes my english is a bit faulty :)

This one changed alot while I was painting it.. The perspective is off, not very happy with this one. I need to start spending more time on planning my sketch than finishing it.

Ouch...tough topic...don't like looking at a sad kid that long...glad I tackled this one though....perfect example of the stretching SOTD provides (feel the burn).
interesting takes by all, I particularly liked Daolohua CnC,FridayEve and DigitalSkunkwrx.
Sagie_13: very funny, still using a mouse?
AzurA: like the classic feel of the drawing. But the objects aren't looking that wet, while it's raining very hard.
Adamos: that is a cool piece!
Doalohua: great emotional piece, good job on the contrast girl and dad.
SpaceCowboy: good try, check your perspective next time.
Robin: very funny also... pity he just shaved his legs.:)
FridayEve: I really like your painterly pieces. Dog could use a more furry texture, but I dig his color ;)
gemcap: good job on his expression. Don't know about the lighting tho, especially on his hair.
now I will shut up...:wavey:

:The day dad left:
Well i did this at work i had to work fast :D took me 15 mins on photoshop and my mouse dont have a wacom tablet yet.
This picture means alot to me, the light and the darkness and the feeling of being alone when your dad or loved one leaves.

gemcap: good job on his expression. Don't know about the lighting tho, especially on his hair. Thanks Art2, for the kudos and the crit, I knew it wasn't quite right, but focusing on it now I see that it's damn near backwards DOH!
Still, this piece was a big step forward for me I think, thanks again
Little late but here is my entry.

Here's one
My siblings and I were always happy when our dad left for work (especially when he went on business trips) and ecstatic the day he dad left for good!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/Got10mm/20041106daydadleft.jpg
Penciled with blueline, inked with a Pentel "Metallic Brush" (a purple one because its the darkest), scanned into Photoshop, and colored. Took about 100 minutes today.

Art2 -- Thanks. And I thought we might get a bigger crowd of participants if people stopped thinking they had a choice in the matter. :)
robinayles -- I was hearing the same song as I drew it. BTW, this is the first drawing I've done using my poseable 18" Spiderman figure. It's got 67 different joints! I never could have drawn from this perspective otherwise. Highly recommended!
