View Full Version : maya to bodypaint connection not working?
MasonDoran 11-04-2004, 12:40 PM OK, i know its possible to have a direct connection between bodypaint and Maya...but it seems i cannot send model to bodypaint because Maya just lags.
i can import .obj into bodypaint and that works fine...
can someone sort me out here?
cheers

Not sure what lagging means in this case.
You have installed the gateway plugin, set the path to BP and have the 'send to bodypaint' in the menu?
It lags after you send your model to BP?
Cant be more specific at this point, I use Maya5 and the plugin to BP works like my infamous charm.

yeah u got it.
i take a simple poly sphere in maya....send to bodypaint....bodypaint opens up but maya says "waiting for bodypaint" -after that....it just lags....as in nothing happens and it never makes it into body paint
i have tried it with maya 5.01 with bodypaint 2.
does this have something to do with texture path or the bodypaint path?
Hi,
might be a problem with the path for the textures and temp files. Please check that the overall path length and filename length does not exceed the OS limits.
Also make sure the userrights are sufficent to read and write in that directory.

thanks srek.....perhaps you could post an example of a working example of the path for the textures?

hmmm....i dont see much as far as help goes in the user manual or referance regarding using the maya plug.
ok....so i create a sphere in maya...assign it a texture that is at the root directory of C:....send it to bodypaint....body paint opens up but it doesnt load the sphere or even the texture

I usually use the default maya path /textures
try it once w/o textures to see if you can at least get an obj. in there
bp can build them for you later on

does your texture path have a space in it ?
take it out and see what happens
if this effects it
somehow you got an earlybird release of the plug exchange
you'll need to contact Maxon
this was one they released at sigg 2003
did you load the plug right ?
did you put the script and append the bpStartup to the startup .mel script

I have the exact problem regardless of having or not having a texture also assigned.

another senerio
what is your graphix card and driver ?
I just remembered this happened to me as well.
quadro 900 xgl
I had to roll back to the 45.xx 47.xx nvidia drivers
i did mention this to srek. they couldn't reproduce the problem with there FX cards they have at Maxon
try that if you have a geforce 4 series card
it solved other problems I was having in Maya and AE as well (bigger isn't always better)
Try the most simple path, like "c:\bptemp" on a windows system.
Install BodyPaint in the default directory "c:\program files\Maxon\BodyPaint"
Mostly on Macintosh OS X there are some problems with longer paths and filenames and as Aaron mentioned sometimes even spaces.

hmmm....i have done exactly that by putting the texture in "c:\bptemp" and BP installed to the default "C:/Program Files/Maxon Bodypaint 3D R2 8.5/ "directory.
i can import .obj files just fine...and texture from there...i would just have to live without the "to maya connection"
there are no spaces or underscores in the texture path...
I do have Geforce Ti 4400 grafix card with latest updates...and although Alias says it has problems with these cards i have not encountered any. Also, i dont understand how a grafx card should interfere with this kind of a connection?
I have no further idea why the connection is not working for you :(
The graphics card has no influence on the connection, it can only have an impact on the stability and speed of the app.

I do have Geforce Ti 4400 grafix card with latest updates.. I was suggesting for you to test it with the old drivers
45.xx or 47.xx
there is no problem
if these drivers don't work you can always go back
I personaly had problems with the latest detonator drivers
Also, i dont understand how a grafx card should interfere with this kind of a connection?
I don't understand how a computer does anything at all ,
but trying a different driver is worth a try don't ya think ?
