the following question is a bit academic...
the other day i had to remove all colour from a panning shot, except for some blood on a dead body. the surroundings were almost skin like coloured(tending towards yellow), the body didnt have any make-up and was a bit pinkish and there were a few people walking around. i started out by suppressing all colours except red(which i saturated a lot), then desaturated the whole image with a new brightness/contrast tool, but still, it was not completely black and white, since there were too many similarly coloured objects around(but not completely red). i ended up doing it with masks, it looked good but took some time to do it, so my question is, what other ways are to do such a thing?
