View Full Version : Texturing
SideShow 11-04-2004, 11:31 AM Hello
I will explain my (noob) problem with an example: I have a sphere with a chrome material on it. I also have a jpeg file, with some black text on a white background.
I would like to put the text on the sphere, but the chrome material must still be there. Also, the chrome material must continue on the white of the jpeg, the black of the jpeg must be able to have a texture applied...
Tnx

One way...
In the reflection channel, add a Composite map. In the first channel of the map, place your reflection map. In the second Composite map channel, add a Mask map. In the "Mask:" channel of the Mask map, place the JPG. Go down to the Output rollout of the JPG map, and check Invert. In the "Map:" channel of the Mask map, add a RGB Tint map and change the color to black.
There are other ways too.

Thnx
I managed to get this: http://users.pandora.be/sideshowstuff/help.jpg
The problem is, the uvwmap causes it to show on the back side of the cirkel too ???
And what do i have to do if I want to add multiple bitmaps ?

U need to create a composite material in max. Yer base material shall be the reflection, and the 1st material shall be the text.
Create a black and white jpg in yer drawing app, for the opacity map. And whala..
want me to go more into detail...

Map yer sphere.... uvw unwrap or a normal uve map... it will get tid of it... currently your sphere is using a planar map, wich means side a is duplicated on side b

I was using a uvw-map modifier with planar setting, and it was displaying at the back too

Thats waht i said, you cant use a planar map... it will double the texture onto the other side.
Use something else... like shpere... or uvw unwrap
