et le titre serait : "Our First Travels"...

Lemog GSO 3d : English Version

With a little delay, I'm yet register to this challenge...

This challenge being really pleasant in it subject, it's also a true pleasure of sharing the realization, the wip, with all the cool en enriching CgTalk members.

Cause I don't have to much time, I really didn't think to register me... Actually, I've too much activities than I'm too tired to do an another project...

But well, it's harder than me, I follow a lot of thread here... and inevitably, some ideas appears in my head. Its too Difficult to drive out the naturalness.

I don't know if I'll can finish the project, for the moment, I don't think, but here nevertheless for the moment an idea which I would like much... it can appear slightly except subject, or different that we can imagine for a theme like that... but the most important in our passion, is the pleasure !

I don't have great knowledge in science fiction, I'm a spectator who likes the great classic of this topic, it's not a great passion, I like, no more. I don't think to be in my element if I do an another version of Star Wars ;-)))

It was necessary that I have a justifying idea, so that I'm register, and perhaps that I start to work on this project in spite of a timetable of insane !

There is the small history :

When we speaks about space scene, we thinks immediately of the future, to the anticipation, ti the inter-galatic travels, to the vessels fight, to the aliens and other robots...

It's true, it was what we see with ou spirit of the 21th centuries, with our culture.

Then, I thought of tackling the subject of a little different manner, namely, how our ancestors, in the middle of 19th centuries, could consider the spacial flights and the space conquest.

There's a small existing iconography, of this time, often caricatural, of course more centered on the few stammerings of balloning and aviation, but which could be used as a basis of reflexion, to put at the head the intellectual, technological and imaginative advance, but at this old time.

With this constation, I don't think that they thought already of intergalactic travels to the confint of universe, or in other solar systems, habited or not. I think that their principal concern, would be the colonization of the skies, or rather of space, directly available to the neighbourhoods of the ground and his natural satellite, the moon..

My first idea of composition would be done with a backrgound of our planet, with in foreground a kind of old "relay of post", but in space version, with the specific design taking into account the time to which it was conceived... this relay, floating in space between earth and the moon, would be certainly a place of exchange, stopping, repair, handing-over on level and rest, in the middle of ceaseless flood of vessels. These machines would be technologically rather close to what one could have conceived or imagine in the period of 1850... with great reinforcement of revolving aerofoils, inflated balloons of air, and other ropes or chains, etc...

and the title will be : "Our First Travels"...

I would wish to have a little special graphic treatment, of an another time, I have already a certain idea... but it is still too early to speak about it.

Now, I must do the sketch corresponding to the vision which I have in my head...

I'm waiting your crits and opinions, on the interest of such a realization... if you find that it' really too out of the subject or not interesting enough and not original, I would give up without problem this project. Thank you by advance for your help...

en toute amitié denIn first... thanks to you to have read all this text... it's a bit long...

Then, I understand your point of view...

But I want to give you some precision... It's not to do an hommage to Jules Verne or other visionaries... but really to try to think like the people at the middle of the 19th century... and to recreate their vision of future imposing, full with discoveries, filled with flying machines, allowing him to visit remote regions, far from our old planet.

Being given that our imagination nourished in our culture, it's this starting from the culture of this time, but as of the technological projections already implemented as I want to make live again in this image. A vision of an oneiric opera of anticipation seen by our ancestors.

Of course, it is not a literal interpretation of the topic, but I think of remaining nevertheless in the hot line of the subject.

I wait few days if they are here a lot of opinion like yours... anf then, I start or no !

glim -> Oui, tu as un peu raison... sur le fond, ça peut y faire penser... mais à vrai dire... j'ai en tête quelque chose de très différent... to be continued...

BartokDesign -> for the deadline, you've right... I think to that... I envisaged to make between 5 and 10 different spaceships, and certainly 3 principal characters all that in more of the decoration, it will be necessary that I start very quickly if I want to finish in time.

rattlesnake -> Thanks my friend ;-)

JamesMK -> I think "zoo" it's the good word to describe us... nothing very serious, just a manner of approaching our passion with a touch of madness

This is the first image presenting the bottom of my thought, and especially, the style of the composition.
Of course, this image is a little poor, because there will be much more spaceships, styles and different sizes. The flying station will also comprise many details.
I hope this composition agree you will like the spirit and that you will want to see more.
If it's the case, I think to begin the modeling next night.
I don't know yet by which element I start. Certainly by the biggest vessels, that which is charged with the lines of carriage of many passengers, for the travels very far in the galaxy. Of course, there will be moreover little vessels, which them could be more personal means of transport, for displacement of the earth to the moon only, for example.

To follow.

Very iconic !

I have a book called : Futurist Vintage of the XXe century, its a gallery book of many image made in the 50s about space exploration etc... things that people dreamed about but that we ll never reach...

Your image has really something from those years, the colors, the people seeing the ships, even the look of the ship a kind of old school design :) and it looks great !

I hop we could see more from your idea even if you have work for client... BUT YOU MUST FINISH THIS ONE !!

Dimitris -> if I were completely sure of what I could do, I think that I would not to do it it's the prospect for the unknown things which perhaps will enable me to make it or not. To make or not to make, that's the question.
That Patrice Mac-Mahon saves France :buttrock:

Virtuoso -> I don't want to think to Jules Verne... I try to forget all of him... and I want to devote myself at that time, 1850, and not to his work of visionary.

This is really the latest welcome ever seen in this forum......a big welcome, Antoine! Good to see that u take part in here! Another most important thread I've discovered today.... more shame on me:banghead: :banghead: for not finding it to the right time....excuse moi s'il te plait, Antoine!(oh my god, my last french-hour was 14 years ago...hope it's right ;-) )

...and as always your concept and your sketch is outstanding great - u know I love old, ancient things - and it's absolut great to see the connection between the past and the future like Jules Verne- this is epic, mate!!

Looking forward to see microscopic details and other filigree stuff from a master:arteest:

All the best to u

Centavrus -> I note your remark, but for the moment, the project is very young... and I think it's too early to considerate these textures as definitive. This rendering to present the model was done in Final Gathering... and for sure, this render is too much clean. And I don't want a photorealistic aspect. Then, you understand that the result I want is far that this wip picture...

oui bonjour

sinon bravo c'est magnifique(understand sorry not enderstand)

I'm sorry for this text in french, but it's more easy to me for explain exactly what I feel...

looking good so far. Nice design. Those "hublots" look very twentieth century though imho. Maybe more round and riveted? dunno if they really thought about the threat of spacial void at this time. Keep it up!

Lemog
11-16-2004, 11:04 AM
stefgrafx -> Hey... do you know where is possible to download this episode ? :scream:

m@. -> a good idea the name of "Selenoscaphe"... I think I keep it for a next ship... with round "huboots"
You see... I try to do details of the Moonship a bit like the 1850 design... but with some parts a little in shift, temporal or not... at this time, the visionnary will think/dream to fly only in the sky... and here, their dreams are transposed in the space... then, I must modifie a little their ideas...
In this project, there will be 2 or 3 characters, of which a woman in "crinoline", but certainly, with a helmet on the head... the mixture of the kinds :)

I have to warn you, I really don't like all those steampunk, or retro-tech universe (except what did Virtuoso, but it's different), so, I won't be able to criticize your work because of my personal tastes, my opinion would be biased. But I can still tell you that technically, it looks great, everything works fine, and you seem to be someone that wants his creation to be plausible. So, for now, what you did "works" and seems pretty much in place with the universe you've created, we can feel the naive ideas of those hopeful adventurers :)

Let see if I understand this.

The engine is going to be in the open cockpit? If not - and if I may ask - why such detail? Just because you can? :D

BTW, wouldn't the small wheels need cogs?

The arrow of the nose now, and the tail... Fir the tail, I ask me a question... in cross or only the vertical surface...
I we want something real... horizontal and vertical is better, but for the design... I don't sure.
I think for the moment to keep the version in cross...

And a little bit in the final image, but just a little :banghead:

Maybe you think I'm crazy... I can't say the opposite :scream:
