View Full Version : MR batch, "frame drop"
skillet 11-04-2004, 02:33 AM Odd stuff is happening with my batch render.
It will render along fine, then stop.
some frames just will not render
I'm using final gather and raytracing.
I've also tried to render out the problem frames in render view and they stop right before final gather points are accumulated.
I've played with the memory allocation, bsp settings, even got rid of tons of unneeded nodes that don't need to be in that pass
including a simplification on the "bounce" illuminated objects.
baby-sitting the render is getting old
anybody have this sorta thing happen to them? If so what did you do to remedy it ?
btw
win xp sp1, maya 6.01, 1024 mb physical ram, dual athlon 2000 mps
render diognostics, had nothing out of the ordanary, set to progress messages
TIA

Render from the command line.
not really up to speed on how to do this.
mulled through the manuals for a while
if either you have a quick reference on how to do that, or where to look
typed
render -r mr -help
just got errors
anyway I did however find out what was causing the problem
just not why it was happening in the first place
it was the MR approx editor subdivide that was creating this problem
don't know why out of 180 plus frames it only effected 8
does not make sense
I even duplicated obj frozen in those frames and got rid of all deformations
and turned visibility on and off it wasn't till after all that work I made the discovery
had to goto a smooth to make it work
problem is my displacement look way different on approx than "real" high def meshes
I'm rambling you probably don't care at this point

I'm having problems with batch render too... trying to render a simple scene but either batch render from inside maya and batch render from the command line hangs up when it reaches frame 9, sometimes it hangs up on frame 2 or 3... the behavior is weird... I don't know how to solve it, from now I'm gonna use weird methods too, like resaving the file, etc to see what happens...
cheers

Piggybacking since my problem *may* be related, though I'm not sure
I've got a really weird one. Mental Ray renders the frames, but some of my objects aren't there! And it only happens in batch (called from the Maya GUI, I haven't tried command line). Doing a single frame works fine. I thought at first it was sub-D's, but some of the sub-D's show up. It isn't the quad thing, since they work in single frame mode. Why would rendering in batch cause the render to be different? My case, though, it's every frame. It's not like I get a problem with just some frames.
What's worse, it worked with other renders before. I've tried resetting the mental ray panel to defaults, but I might have missed something.
Anyone ever seen anything like this? I'm working in Maya 5, if that has anything to do with it.
<EDIT> I've tried running from the command line, and it's a bit odd. Mental Ray is failing 'unable to load plug in'. That error doesn't seem to want to appear in the UI, but it shows up in the command window.
Only problem is, what do I do about it? Anyone seen this/have any clue?
