This is the leftover of a project at my company. We did a short TV spot to advertise the Spider-Man 2 DVD going on sale... the spot is going to be one of those annoying animations that plays in the lower right corner of the screen during certain programs. Anyway, they sent us a million PSDs of Spidey in different poses, and I worked on a cross-fade version using only After FX to make the transitions. While waiting for approval on that, I started working on this guy because I suspected they'd want to go 3D after seeing the cross-faded version.

Well, they approved the cross-faded version! So this guy will not be used. Dammit.

I thought I'd try to finish him anyway though...Let me know what you think!

Looks nice. His face seems a bit flat though, try pulling out some of his features a bit. The texturing is nice too.

Its a nice spiderman model, but I think the head is a bit flat, I mean, the distance between the neck and chin seems to short. Also, I would make the blue from his costume more saturated. It looks a bit too grey i think.
Keep working on it, and then get him a nice superhero pose :)

Hey I really like your model but if you don't mind some crits,

The chest looks a bit too large. Needs to be less wide for that thin Spider-Man look. I also think there needs to be a little more definition in the chest. I would pull the upperchest out a bit more. I think the buttocks need more definition as well. Checks might look better if they where more rounded. The face looks a litte too round and flat for my taste. Maybe if you better tried showing the forms underneath the mask better.

Don't get me wrong, I really like your model and the texture looks good. Much better work then I could do, but you did say tell us what you think,

I hope that helped,

Sweet, thanks! I'll work on the chin area.

I was going to skin him up for a nice pose but I wanted to finalize geometry first.

Excellent thanks. Just what I'm looking for.

I'll post an update as soon as I make the changes!

Oh, one thing I should clarify...this is supposed to be the Sam Raimi Spidey, with Tobey Maguire in the suit.

So, superhero-style exaggeration has been set aside in favor of a more "Tobey M. in the Spidey suit" look.

actually I was thinking more of Tobey as Spider-man. I still think tobey's less beefy and more defined in the chest then your character.

Some updates.

I worked on the chest and back to make them a little leaner/realistic without losing the 'superhero quality. I also pared back a bit on the enormous quad muscles I had. I worked more with the head to give it more realistic proportions....I made the face area slightly raised in the center to suggest the nose. I've left the ass pretty much as it was before.

I also tweaked materials a bit; I wasn't happy with the eyes in the last version...so I've reworked the eye coverings using a falloff map and slight reflectivity.

I see...so are you thinking things need to be smoothed over? The pelvic bones and such?

Or is he looking a little saggy/haggard or something?

Thanks for checking it out!

I think what everyone is trying to say is he is way too wide, spiderman is supposed to be nimble and quick this spiderman looks like his stalky and had a box or two of donusts, not that he is fat just alot of meat on his bones.

I guess I'll have to do some more side-by-side comparisons between what I've got and Tobey M. in the suit. I actually like the slightly thicker Spidey, like from the Spider Man 2 game cinematics, more than I like the wiry one.

Thanks for checking it out, I'll keep at it.

Updates.

I made him more thin and youthful looking. I hope.

Also skinned him and gave him a more super-hero-ish pose.

I think this is more of a spidy thats retired, or a vivid fan who just couldnt resist but to wear the costume. I like the shader alot though

hummm ok i'll be honest. he looks like a blowup doll. You seem to have most of the anatomy correct ie in the right place but he's not as chisaled as he could be. I would recomend finding an anatomy book. It has helped me alot. Try modeling for the inside out and not the outside in. More specificly his rib cage should constrain the width of his abs. Try making them 2/3s their current width. You might want to make a more defined crease at the bottom of his Pectorals as well. I would recomend addressing the feet as well. Go ahead and put in that arch on the inside of the foot and scale down the heel some. I hope this helps some.:) keep up the good work.

sorry about the spelling
