Hello,
I was adding spot lights to a scene I am working on, and I noticed that with fog density set to 0.150 I still render an 800x600 scene with Maya Soft for 1:05min! Without the fog light I get 35sec! Are there any techniques to help me reduce the rendering time? I am fairly new to rendering tech and lighting, so any help, advice, or website link will be greatly appreciated.

Comp Spec:
P4 2.4Ghz
512 RAM RDRAM
2x 200GB HD
ATI Radeon 9800 XT w/ 256MB
Win Xp Pro (I hate it :)
Maya 6.0

Cheers guys,
WT.

that should help :P

i dont use maya, but i guess the onyl way to speed up rendering time would be to turn the detail of the fog down

and i dont think you had to realy post it twice under different names

Are you using raytraced or mapped shadows? IME, volumetric effects such fog render faster with shadow maps.

First thanks for your comments!

I think I need to use shadow maps because I was using regular fog with Maya software. any tutorials?

Thanks,
WT.
