Nice desperado ducasse...
But he doesn't look too healthy though...

I played a little with Art Rage, a really neet tool.
Those crayons reminded me of the old kindergarden days :D :D

Really great sketch there Art2! I'm gonna have to try that site from home where I can use my stylus instead of a mouse. The mouse just ain't doin' it!

...I got someone to "lend me" an old version of Painter. I'll try it out this weekend, I'll let you know how it goes.

SpaceCowboySpike - Hilariours!
DigitalSkunkwrx - Glad you're having fun with your new toy—enjoy!
Cyanid - Love the color!
Pistenbully - Yo Ho ho and a bag of purina! Love it!
Art2 - Let's talk...

erilaz
11-04-2004, 02:29 AM
About 1/2 hour in PS. Sort of a more modern desperado.:) I'll have to get ftp access to my webspace at work so I don't have to keep attaching these.

Fantastic work so far all!

DigitalSkunkwrx - Great perspective! Love the angle you've put on it.
Pistenbully - Great scene!
deaderthanred - I love the concept! :D ET phone Shell.
SpaceCowboySpike - Two in one day???? The first one is very bebop!
Cyanid - Beautiful tones. Wish I could paint 'em more like that.
yerxa - C'mon! It's not crappy! You can see what it is, and the crosshatch shading is nice!
cLos71 - fantastic. Especially the bottle.
Fluffy - You be crazy. :D
ducasse - Lovely line work.

Keep it up people!

Ducasse- great stuff. it's definitely going towards the day of the dead calavera theme and i like the woodblock look!
fluffy-been a while since i've seen an alien on a horse. you may have spawned a new theme :-)
clos71-i like the foreshortening and depth of field. my only crit would be that you should have a bit more emphasis on the bottle as that's the only part in focus!
yerxa-good proportions. did you use a ref?
cyanid-beautiful colours as always. the mountains look cozy- never thought i'd see cozy mountains....
spacecowboy-that looks like anime meets harry potter meets the magnificent seven! you should come up with a name for that... should be interesting! I like the style of the head. your second one is actually quite scary. i'd cross the street if i saw that fella around!
art2-you get my vote. it's really well done and cute at the same time. I'm working to catch up to you....
digitalskunk- great musculature on the indian! the only downer is that i feel the ground should be darker, that way the horizon could be foggy, giving it a great atmosphere...
deaderthanred-that's really good for your first time with a wacom. keep it up! only- the front part of the truck doesn't seem to be attached to the main part....
pistenbully-interesting idea alright, sure would like to see this coloured in though.
erilaz-wonder what he's after-drugs or money? or a wacom tablet?
and finally, here's mine-15-20 mins in photoshop.
Cheers everyone.
{\tirade:BY THE WAY--- HERE'S AN IDEA-- SINCE THIS IS A DAILYSKETCH FORUM MAINLY FOR IMPROVING OUR SKILLS--maybe we should all criticize each others' work-- maybe we should make it mandatory- you can't post your own work without criticizing/praising the others' works....that way we all learn and get feedback! how about it? :/tirade}

lol I would agree, except I'm not sure if people would want my newbie opinion.. I'm not that much a regular here, just joining in the fun whenever I have time.. i will try commenting more often tho, good suggestion :) your pic's very good.. could tell straight away he's a dont-mess-with kinda mexican bastard :D

as for the truck, it's a gas tanker and the front is semi-attached to the tank part, and if it was lifted, it'll look like a broken neck, i think.. thanks for crits, I always appreciate someone taking the time to lend me an eye!

erilaz: thanks, but I think I missed the topic theme lol
btw, is "desperado" a western/blazing-guns theme thing? I'm from asia and not really familiar with some english slangs *hides*

ThreedyModeler

is "desperado" a western/blazing-guns theme thing?Yep, a "desperado" is a desparate outlaw, especially when referring to the American/Mexican frontier era.

http://www.cogsci.princeton.edu/cgi-bin/webwn?stage=1&word=desperado

I took your sketch as being some "desperate ailen outlaws who needed some gas" - so in that regard, you were on-topic.

I think it can be interesting to see how different people interpret the topic in their own little ways. Depends on the topic i suppose. Anyway. I know "desperados" more commonly refers to those desperate outlaws from the wild wild west, but instead of going the same route, i hereby offer another breed of desperados:

Digital painting - 1hr

Sorry i don't have the time to comment on any of your works right now. Work calls. It's a good idea to leave comments though - for those who have time to spare.

shoddy work from me i'm afraid, even when using a photographic reference! :( anyhow, an hour of painter 9 using a famous shot of lee van cleef as a reference (feel free to remove roberto if it breaks the rules e.g. original composition)

thanks for the suggestion Paperclip, Ill definitely try some colour next time.

SpacCowboySpike - amazing how much energy the sketch has. Well done!
Mahir - nice atention to detail, I dont wanna ever have to deal with these guys!
FridayEye - Good to keep it loose, I should try that too.
Mdme_Sadie - I recognised him straight away, no need for the explanation. Itd be cool to see more background detail too. Ill look next time.
Richd - reminds me of a lithograph, good to see a different style.
Efoo - Like the rim lighting! Heightens the intimidating feeling. Love the sky hues, I chickened out of adding detail to my sky, another thing to try. Keep coming back!

paperclip: thanks mate! Hey, I really like the pose of your character. Think about your color choice and foreground/background next time (things we all struggle with ;) )

fridayeve, richd: I like the looseness of your style.
Same goes for mdme_sadie, but I guess he's using some sort of C4Dplugin he just developed... :D:D

darth: hope you stick around

lovely sketches guys!

I did create something in opencanvas 1.1 yesterday, but I couldn't upload it by then. It's pretty good actually. Too bad that opencanvas 3.05 is very unstable. I'll be ok with 1.1 for now until they fix that unstable bug. I really love opencanvas 1.1... I don't know why, but I seem to achieve more colors in that program and is easier to use. I guess Photoshop is oversenstived on tablet, etc. whereas opencanvas create smoother color, smoother line, etc. No idea why.

Anyways, when I get a chance, I'll edit this post with picture, etc. I also have .wpe file if you want to see how i did it. I don't know where to upload that to because my website is down temp. (I have no money :P and I had bad experiences with service so far grrr).

Anyways great job everyone :D I love desperados! :D

zip up your wpe and try this hosting: http://www.filehosting.org/
most of my quick sketches are 300-ish kb so this works quite well

Here's *.wpe file... it'll be online for a month. Let me know if you want it again (just in case you see this after a month) by pming me or something. :) Unzip it of course... http://get.filehosting.org/du8359.zip .. thanks to deaderthanred for his help.

Edited: Oops... forgot to edit my post.. but oh well... next time. :) And no I don't post just to get some more post count... >_<
