When making texture maps, does a higher DPI create a more accurate representation of the color or bump when renderered or should I just leave it at 72 DPI.....also when you guys render....say you are making a 640x480 image...do you render it at double the size then in photoshop double the dpi and shrink it down to the 640x480...or will the render qualitly be the same as if I had just rendered it regular size?
thanks!

DPI only comes into play with regards to images for print.

With textures it's the actual size of the image that makes all the difference.

I think the general consensous is to create textures at twice the (pixel) resolution the final render will be viewed at (also taking in to account how much screen the object will cover).

If your final animation or render will be 640x480, and you plan to do some close-up shots - create textures at 1280x960. DPI only relates to print and is determined by the print device (often confused with PPI, which is what your actually refering to).
