Here is a viewport animation test of clothfx. Its simple, but I thing, very good start.
Calculation time was about 30 seconds.
Cloth object has 3696 subpatched polygons, display subpatch level is 3. Its extruded with HD PumpIt tool.

That would be great if he was underwater, I think the cloth moves a little too slow.
