Is it correct that vertexes of an editable spline cannot be welded together? Is there another way?

Why you couldn't weld vertices of an editable spline ?? It works nice, like meshes/polys. Try it..

Oh i did...all damn night long!....Dunno why it doesn't do it...

You can only weld spline vertices which are endpoints, you cannot weld spline verts if they are in the middle of the spline. The reason is that Max (or to my knowledge any other 3D app) doesn't support branching splines.

Use "Fuse" instead, and tick the little "area selection" checkbox in Edit Spline.

thanks....wish I knew that last night:annoyed:

I'm on max 5 as well and it surely doesn't work for me:shrug:

Works here too without problems. Did you set the threshold high enough?

I think he means intersecting splines (look at attached image)
But you can weld 2 vertices of the same spline.

As usual Iain is right :D

Indeed he is...but as he said you can work just fine without welding them....so I'm back to my modelling:)
