sorry but not what i mean, ofcourse thats too simple, i already have a skeleton that way but its too basic and does not allow a good movement of the dog or hitting poses like sitting down, I mean a complete way to rig it, more detailed

Ive have one in an old book called 'Mastering Maya Complete 2' Its only about 4 pages long but covers skeleton setup, IK setup, and contraints for the legs, just basic rigging for a dog.

If you want I can scan the pages and send them to you in a Private message or email.

Hey Sigma Thank you very much for your help, isnt it the one called Hand-On Maya, Binding a Puppy? Because thats the one I got and i already did it but its too basic and simple, you cannot move the pelvis independently or get the dog to sit. I saw in the Character Rigging Forum a thead called Rigging a Quadruped, but its all for Max, and I couldnt see how can I apply those concepts in Maya. Hey if you have a different tutorial from the One I have I would appreciate if you can do what you said about scanning it and sending it to me. or if you have any other suggestions. THANKS A LOT!!!! :)

The book im refering to is this one.

Amazon link (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0782125212/qid=1030045573/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/002-2611624-2168048?s=books&n=507846)

And I think it might be the same tutorial. Doesnt deal with the pelvis setup.

don't think that you will need a more complex skeleton, sure you will need good weightings an deformers....but with that the dog should be able to sit

Too bad, I need a good rig to achieve a rellly good movement, If you guyz check the section of Character rigging forum there is a thread called Rigging a quadruped, there you can see that in order to achieve better movement you need a more complex rig, in which you can move the pelvis independently, that guy talks about using geometry and not bones, but its confussing.
:hmm:

I remember seeing a Cat Rigging Tutorial a Highend3D.com but their site is down for some reason. Check the Maya Tutorial section when they come back online. http://www.highend3d.com/maya/tutorials/
Did you look through this thread Maya Tutorials online (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6360)

When you animate your dog, make sure to compensate for the heavy and big head...

it's a nice model, but if you don't watch your weight very carefully (something that it's usually missing from early reels) it might look weird..

Good luck, I'd love to see the dog animated

O btw im still a student at cdis.
currently in 300.
but anyways yeah do you want me to just send you the .mb file?
ill put together a leg and buttocks the way i did there for you.
and explain stuff for it.
it would be easier than making a whole explanation.
that way you can look at the hgrph and see whats doing what.
yup yup.
ill quit what im doing and get it to you asap.
later man.

here guys thats what i did.
i whipped this up in like 5 minutes. thats basicly how my rig works.
the toe pointing set driven key is on the main toe control
thats about it.
Um the most important part to this rig is how the bum bone works. Makes good but wiggles for your doggy, or in my case the kitten.

Very nice rig

I would add one or two little changes..

Instead of linking the hip bone to the spine I would have an extra bone going down from the spine and join the hip bone to this one.
This extra bone needs to be very small... this way you get independant control over the legs..you might want to rotate the legs but not the spine.. I might even take this a step further and add an extra bone there so that I can control each individual hip..

I hope that makes sense...
