I took this picture in BigSur the other day, and it kind of reminded me of a gigantic city... A living, growing city. And I thought it will be cool to make an organic futuristic city as a background for this challenge....

And here is my idea sketch for the background. I'm thinking to add flying trafic lines, and a character looking up this scene.

This is a fascinating concept. I can't wait to see what develops from it. Definately one of the more original ideas out there. :applause:

Just WOW! I wish I'd have such a cool brain ;) The fact you got inspiration by that is just AWESOME! That concept sketch is incredibly cool! I really really like the idea!

Wish you lots of strength and power,

Gijs

Very original idea!
I am looking forward to see what you will make out of it.

Thank you andreas_V, I like your Kappa design too!
When I was little, my grand parents used to tell me some people got pulled into a gutter by Kappa, and I got really scared by this misterious creature.

Here is the concept sketch wip....
Mid ground buildings and explosions are added.

holy transformation! Thats a neat way to start an image. I've often taken photos and been inspired by them, but never wanted to scan them in. I have to get a digital camera!

Nice idea, going from a photo like that. Would have been nice though, if you have kept the organic flow of the tree bark, cause now, apart from the photo, it looks like standard skyscraper designs.
Keep it up!

I really like the where the composition is going with the explosions and traffic lines. You a getting a very action packed scene without cluttering the compostion up.

Thank you m@. Yes, I'm definitely planning on keeping the organic flow from the tree bark when I move onto modeling.
Nature has such a beautiful and complex lines that is hard to reproduce, and I' been learning a lot of things just looking at it....

Cool shot. Had a weird twilight zony idea. A guy with a chainsaw
is cutting down the skyscrapers for firewood, and there is a stack
of cut buildings.

A swarm of enemy attack!?
It's very much inspired by Nausicaa...

This is looking very promising, also like your working methods...
Only thing; Why donīt you darken the background a little? First of all, it would make more contrast to the volume light passing through the branches. Also the front with the explosions would be more dramatic. Just an opinion.

Great Idea, keep going!

I'm becoming to hate my previous sketch... It was too busy... and no focus in composition... So I'm approaching differently this time.

Great! Good inspirational idea. About your new sketch I think it has a better focus and organization, but the first one had more dinamic. Im refearing to the theme of the contest. You could combine them both and I think it will be great. Can wait to see more! Congrats!

you've started off very promisingly. Now, I would recommend that you come up with a story. That way you can use your creativity to hone down an idea so that you don't fall behind. Good luck and nice work.

Thank you Kaparo and HieSpike. Yes, I agree on both opinions.
I think I was stuck with the original idea, and over worked on it.
The composition got a bit messy, but I think combining these two different look is a great idea.
And I'm trying to think about a story behind this image, so different element flows together.
Thank you very much again for the valuable advice!

You can try some horrizontal suspended buildings, like branches.
Just keep the windows to the same gravity orientation as the main
trunk buildings. -------- - ----- --- - ----------
