Ok! I am need of some help regarding the following questions :$. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Manipulator Tool?
Multiple Face manipulation?
Scaling faces via number values?
1) The Manipulator Tool?

Ok! How to put this as simple as possible. Below is an image of a simple cylinder with some selected faces.

Now, I wish to expand these faces, with out scaling / extruding. An example is below via extrusion.

If I scale, I get this!

The face stays true to it's co-ordinates, but it's size changes. Now as far as I know, the magic tool that I'm looking for is the Manipulator Tool.

When I select faces, then try use this tool, no xyz movement tool thingy shows up :(. I'm guessing I might need to define a center point for it to scale the faces from.

This example doesn't show what I need this help for. If I wanted to resize, I would have extruded to the correct length that I needed. I DO however, need this for enlarging the TOP vertices of the extruded faces (Not the whole wall of the cylinder). Any help on this would be awesome, thank you <3.

2) Multiple Face manipulation?

Let's say I have a cylinder again. I have every second face selected in the middle section. My question is; is it possible to cut all those faces, by cutting one? I want a certain pattern sliced into each face, but don't want to do each one individually :(. See below for example!

Cut up!

Once again, this is just an example of what I need help with. Thanks for any help again <3.

Scaling faces via number values?

Ok, I have a a face selected on an object and want to scale it to a value. I don't want to use the scale tool, as I intend on doing a uniform scale on different faces (Not all at once).

Ok! That's my question list. Sorry for the large post, but for these problems to be sorted, my life would be made a whole lot easier! Thanks to anyone who replies and can help me out.

Hi!

1) edit polygons > Move component its right down the bottom of the menu.

2) hmm not sure about this there are a number of ways of doing this but none as straight forward as you are doing. You may want to search for a plugin. Polytool or something similar.

3) What are you asking here? i dont understand.

Hmm, seems to me you're starting off with an 8 sided cylinder and wanting to perform the same operations on all 8 sides so...

Why not just take 1/8th of your cylinder and instance it 8 times around the y-axis. Then you can just worry about your original segment. Because you've instanced it the other 7 segments will behave in exactly the same way. When you're finished just combine all the segments and merge the vertices.

Cheers,
Pete.

Scaling faces via number values?

Ok, I have a a face selected on an object and want to scale it to a value. I don't want to use the scale tool, as I intend on doing a uniform scale on different faces (Not all at once). You could use the scale command:
scale [flag i.e: absolute, relative] [x] [y] [z];

so:

scale -a 2 2 2;

that will scale your face x2 in all directions.

(check the help docs, or type help scale in the command line.)

Or you can download the script TransformTypeIn or something which you can find on www.highend3d.com (http://www.highend3d.com/)
