CGTalk - Welding question

I'm having trouble welding 2 vertexes together. They are part of a 1 spline, they are not end or beginning splines and they are almost atop of each other. I've moved the slider far enough...when I press weld nothing happens...Any ideas?

if its one Spline, you should be able to just delete it, as opposed to welding it? (not sure why it wont weld though)
