Title: The Fleeing Ealypian

Story:

In the outer edges of a bright galaxy lies planet Ealyp. Near Ealyp, there is a moon that is well known for its rich resources in Omreht, a substances so molecularly tight and can be easily manipulated makes it a valuable commodities for building indestructible spaceships. Because of the impending war, the Kromans, knew of these invaluable substance dispatch a fleet of Kroman's space vessels to the only place known to have it. The Ealyps aware of this beforehand, has started evacuating their people away to other star systems, away from the creeping Kromans. However the Kromans arrived sooner than expected and now they are running out of time. In order to protect the remaining tranport vessels a few stayed behind to man the defense turrets in order to slow down the Kromans so that the others may survive. The kromans has a planet destruction weapon known as Hellatorius. Staying behind means dying to this weapon and the remaining Ealyps know this. And so they sacrificed their lives in order to save their own kind.

Hi guys & gals, this is my first entry into cgchallenge and i don't know anyone around the forum and hopefully by the end of this i might be able to know a few friends and learn tons of stuff.
My main motivation is to learn and improve my work. Good luck to the other entries, they are awesome! Here goes:

Idea 1: A group of defenders in a distant star system, protecting a passageway against innumerable odds. They(the defenders) do not wear or tire as ceaseless amount of attackers throw themselves to break through the passage. Classic concept :)

this is the concept for some of the alien ships, ok basically the story is like this, theres a planet in a faraway star system which holds the key to un ravel the secrets of all there is in the universe and so these large number of alien races launch an attack on the planet hoping to break in but the planet is protected by a system of defensive turrets and also spaceships. the odds of holding the planet defense is minute but still the defenders stands tall.. sort of like the story of spartan holding off the attacks of the persians. i will include certain greek/roman element into the design of the defensive turret. the alien races will very in designs as they come from diff planets. please give your comments...

I like the idea of Thermopylae. Though the story of the Spartan being told that the Persians would blacken the skies with their arrows, to which he replied, "good, it's a hot day, we can fight in the shade." is really down to a Thespian who fought there. Thespes was famous throughout Greece for its fine actors.

the shield and spear thingy is the defense of the planet, while the other 3 ships on the right is the attacking force. the gateway is the escape path for the evacuated ships to go through.
im still wondering whether i should add mechas to the scene, as the defenders of the planet??? any comments????

Thx for your reply borro, ok.. Here is a refined story,

... this one is more organic and roundish corners, more to the alien culture, wich one is better? remember this gateway should have a hint of greek architecture, so if anyone has references to greek/roman designs let me know tq :)

I prefer the second one too. As was said, our (human) concept of tech (angles, edges) can be incorporated within the organic lines.

minor modelling, going for the organic feel, making the top of the "trojan" helmet sharp.. also any ideas for the space tunnel thingy? suppose to be a space gateway warping tunnel thing... @-@, i will model more tonight, gotta sleep now..

It's funny: I had almost the exact same idea for my piece, but at the last minute I swapped it for another concept. Now I'm really going to be interested in seeing how this turns out.

Well I think you chose the right version of the Gate. Now for the space warp use lot's of light cuz that's what it is... refraction of light and time... and to best show the effect take a ship turn soft selection on, pick some verteces and move them toward the Gate to achieve a great effect :) ok keep it up!

I'm sure you've probably moved past this, but I actully like the blocky gate. the non blocky gate looks un polished to me. prehaps if you keep the organic look but some how tighten up the insets or add control segments to tighten up the -shift in the bevel. mostly in the forward facing tabs (or what ever I may call them, the rest actully looks really good, just those parts bother me)

rock on and keep it up. ;)

this is the updated gateway design..
not too happy with it..
however i refined some parts of the gateway so it looks more solid.

im thinking of putting spikes on the wings thingy, see next post..

spike version... i plan to make the spike like sort of sucked in to the middle, here its just straight down.. i pretty like this version since it was the original concept.. but right now it looks like crap :P

here is a more cleaner look, got rid of the extra "wing" and spikes. Okay gonna leave this be for now and going to modelling the mothership(fun part).. stay tuned

looking good so far, IOM, I like the blocky version of the gateway, but, I you go with the organic one, I prefer it without spikes.

Also I want to add, the Alien Spaceship desing if AMAZING, I saw a lot of spaceships in the space opera threads, but the main ship of the concept has a real cool shape, I hope the 3d version keep that speed and dangerous feeling.

i drew this on a notepad and the scan quality is quite bad, but basically it is a medium sized ship, that shoots a laser/energy beam that when hits a planet it will disrupt the water concentration and breaks the molecule into hydrogen and blows up the entire planet. To destroy a planet, around 9 of these ships are needed.

at last, started modelling again.. this time modelling another object, the "peashooter" so called because compared to the other ships this is one of the smallest ;) here it is initial stages...

nice model! :thumbsup: i like your concept so far! interesting and great! But for your models, IMHO, you shud reduce the number of polygons. The high poly count makes the ships too organic. if you are using nurbs, then you should control the edges to make it more "metal" and "sharp edged". :)

Hi,

nice story and modeling. Looks very promising. I would recommend that you work on the composition a bit more so that you know exactly what you need to model and not. This could save you a lot of work. Might even do a sketch in color.

Been not posting for awhile, right now going back to basics and learning how to draw anatomy figures and starting to sketch circles and squares and round. I just got back from another state and I saw expose 2 and d'artiste for sale.. :eek: omg I can't wait to buy it but don have that much money to spent on a book alone... sob sob.. :sad: Now I'm fired up and I wanna aim for getting the expose 2 prize!! Argh!!! Here I come, going to do the mother ship sketch and revamped the design for the peashooter and gateway maybe.. Stay tuned!

The more I look at the ship the more I don like it, hemm any comments ?? I redefined the shape and add more detail this time. What do you think? I think I am going to go with this design and thrash the old one. Learnt a valuable lesson, do your concept art well before start to model! :scream: Other challengers are already modelling away and some even started texturing.. Im still here! Argh!!

front part, same model but different view, im really liking where this is going. What do you think? Any suggestions?? Im thinking how do I make the moving parts, use a gear or some sort of alien tubes? Im really lost in doing mechanical stuff.. Please help!! I want to make a connector in short, connecting the wings and body. See the next pic to see my version..

the "gears" is marker by the red circle. basically it is 3 cylinders string together. thats it. and theres another flatter cylinder on the body of the ship, to rotate it in another axis wihch cannot be seen here.

Another view of the moving part, notice the circular flat gear that moves it up and down. What do you think? How should I improve it?

modelled the bridge and refined the wings part.. not much of an update tho.. one question, besides using meshmooth and subdivision in editpoly is there any other way to make the object looks smooth, esp for squarish object like space ships? i don wan to spend my time chamfering most of the edges.. any other solution?

ok im done modelling the low poly version of this ship. added gi to show it better. What do you think? Moving on to model other objects, probably a bigger space ship..

divinitus main cannon, i modelled the cannon parts and some front part of the ship. trying to go for the industrial kinda of look under a sleek armor. any suggestions? critics???

Divinitus from the front, here you can see the 'tusk' and cannon. Be aware that it is still a lowpoly version.

divinitus modelling continued.. Ill keep modelling but for now I have done little by little. Hopefully I can finish it in time. Good luck to all.

For some reason you have now made comments on my work twice, which I appriciate SO much!!! I like your work as well, very unique designs, especially your ship. I wish I had the patients to make some drawing sketches first, and apply them in my scene as you have done. I constantly do this; :banghead: , because of failures made in my "sit-down-and-model-right-out-of-imagination" kind of working. Failures that just take so long to repair, as I suddenly realize how bad something, made too many "undos" ago, looks. And my last save is always too old for just reloading an older mesh. But thatīs the way it is...:)

Keep modelling great stuff, work hard, only two months to go.....

I learned it the hard way about doing sketches. For other they can model on the fly but for me I have to sketch out first whats on my mind before I can model them. And it helps with the sense of proportion and details! ALways sketch first! Best of luck, I hope I can finish on time.

Hi there! please show it with some different lighting, because it's hard to see and judge the shape(ot it's just my old monitor:) ). From what I see it looks good, I wouldn't change it, maybe only make it a little bit wider.

This is my 2nd biggest ship, dubbed afflictio which means "pain". The size is about 1/5 of the divinitus size and looks quite mean :)

This is the concept for Salutaris, the protective mechanism that is protecting the planey from the invaders. It symbolizes the shield and the spear of the roman army. The inset is the updated composition sketch. More to come on this..

Mozee are the fighter ships, small fast and deadly. The concept are simple, a triangular shaped metal piece flying around with twin lasers.

Here you can see my concept for the Hellatorius destructive lasers and the logo for the Kroma alien race.

Colour concept for the texturing work, the color scheme for the Kroma ships are mostly dark with bluish glow, hopefully this will give off a nice effect.

Added the background, the sea of stars and several galaxy can be seen. I don quite like the sun at this point, will look forward to render a better one. Btw the stars is made in photoshop.

Putting in the ships to get a sense of scale. Don't mind the colour and lighting. Arghh not enough time for me!! Work work..

So sorry for all these influx of posts, the images are all saved in my hdd and I didnt have access to internet connection for the past 2 weeks so I had to post them all up in 1 night. Now testing the engine glow effects, right now I have 3 choices, omni light attenuation + fog light, glow effect, and video post. I don't really like video post because its hard for me to control. I would prefer the earlier two. Here is the omni light method..

Update on the texture, I don really have any idea on the material except that it is kinda of like a shiny material, a volcanic rock polished to perfection. That is why it is black. And I also added the glow to give it more life.

Updated on Hellatorius, the base texture is not detail as it will be seen only from far away. Heavy use of glow will be used.

I must say, your concept of this whole scene is very well organized and depict a vast and massive civilization. I love your ships, however i think you can add more details to the textures. SpaceShips are usually bright and silverish but your theme or dark and shiny glowly is a rather unique choice of theme.

1. too many colors in the starfield, make it in one color palette, but different saturations and brightnesses.

Make alot of corrections, added more afflictios, corrected lighting, change lazer material abit, and others. It didnt look as chaotic as I wanted it to be but thats okay. It looks really good compared to the earlier works.

Title: The Fleeing Ealypian

Story:

In the outer edges of a bright galaxy lies planet Ealyp. Near Ealyp, there is a moon that is well known for its rich resources in Omreht, a substances so molecularly tight and can be easily manipulated makes it a valuable commodities for building indestructible spaceships. Because of the impending war, the Kromans, knew of these invaluable substance dispatch a fleet of Kroman's space vessels to the only place known to have it. The Ealyps aware of this beforehand, has started evacuating their people away to other star systems, away from the creeping Kromans. However the Kromans arrived sooner than expected and now they are running out of time. In order to protect the remaining tranport vessels a few stayed behind to man the defense turrets in order to slow down the Kromans so that the others may survive. The kromans has a planet destruction weapon known as Hellatorius. Staying behind means dying to this weapon and the remaining Ealyps know this. And so they sacrificed their lives in order to save their own kind.
