GreenFish 10-29-2004, 06:32 PM I've tried looking, but can't wait any longer, how can I do displacement maps in Blender?
Any tutorials on the web?
Thanks

material buttons (F5)
at the far right:
texture> map to>Disp
bootom right to scale displacement value
important: your mesh has to be subdividet..the more verts the better the effect
it will only show in the render

Thanks.
I'm thinking of getting zbrush to do my modelling and texturing, and using blender to render. Most likely use displacement maps so that I can work with low poly models when setting up the scene for the space opera challenge.

i got the same idea so im also interested to know about this. especially if blender can import .obj with the special kinds of uvmappings zbrush uses, GUV and AUV mapping.
Also zbrush has a good realtime renderer that is pretty fast rendering highpolyobjects so if its stills u need it could save ure cpu a bunch of strain by rendering the zbrush work separate and then composite afterwards. but for anims hopefully blender does work well with blender.
lemme know if anyone finds related info. i will do the same

Found some info in this thread http://206.145.80.239/zbc/showthread.php?t=20310 there are a testrenders on page 5 and a 11. on the latter there is a walkthru for blender use. also zbrush.com has sample files for rendering models with dispmaps in external renderers and a practical manual with info on rendering in some of the mayor applications.

Would be sad if it didn't!
