View Full Version : Area lights newbie question

I want to iluminate a room with an area light in the ceiling, but the light spills energy both sides! I just want it downwards.Is there an option to tell the light to cast energy just one side?. Otherwise my ceiling looks washed out. Or should I exclude the ceiling for being illuminated by this light?

You said it at the end--exclude.
I'd separate your walls in different layers in Modeler, import back to Layout and exclude the walls that you don't want light to cast on.

You can also a spotlight with shadow maps.

I agree with Larry, also you can move your light in the course of a frame along the ceiling (pre/post behavior repeat), activating MotionBlur you will obtain a very similar effect to an area light.

Hi, I just wanted to shoot in you could also use a baffled area light, which is really sweet if you use Fprime. The baffle should be "unseen by camera" but not by rays or light, I guess.
