Hello,

i have a question for a you. I'm very newbie in animation an i only make a simple walk sicle for now. I have use for the arm fk solution becouse with ik solution i have a lot of problem to make a fluid movements. But now i make a simple animation. The character walk and after it's open the door. For the second movement i need a ik solution for the arms, right? Or if it's makes a ginnastic movement like flession i need before fk and after ik. with Caracter studio it's simple, but if i make a rig with bones, what i can do? . There are some discussion ot tutorial , example for that? I read the tutorial in maxtd.com but for me it's very diffucult and that tutorial is for max 3!

Thanks!

PS: i use 3ds max

If you use Max bones, it's Ik HI Solver has a button under Motion pannel that turns IK on and Off. You still use the IK handle to position the arms when Ik button is off, but with animate on they keys apear on the actual bones so they move like FK. It's nice but kind not too great to animate with, and to avoid pupping when you switch between Ik and FK you have to have auto key button on and pose arms while IK is on, then once you're satisfied with the pose, turn the IK Button off and the keys will apear on the acutal bones.

or

I know a really good animator http://www.charpu.com/ who is a nut :-) and uses IK for everything. Although he sais he adds lots of keyframes.

or

you can rigg your arms to blend between IK and FK. It takes a bit of wiring to get things work. Anyways, here's a sample Max file I made a while ago. Maybe you can reverse engeneer it and it'll help you set up your own IK/FK blending rigg. http://harmonic01.8m.com/forums/fk_ik_squash.rar
use the small dummy next to hand to blend between IK and FK (it has a custom attribute in modify pannel). Use red circles for FK and a point helper with spline rectangle for IK. Oh and there are custom attributes on fk and ik hand controlls for squash and stretch.

or

go to www.puppetshop.com (http://www.puppetshop.com) and use that instead. puppetshop gives you all sorts of rigging options and very easy and fast to set up.
