I am having severe performance problems. can anyone suggest optimization solutions/tutorials

I use a 15" G-4 powerbook: os 10.3.5,1gb ram 80gb drive, 64mb graphics card, maya 6.1 unlimited. I am experiencing severe slowdowns . I have tried turning off history, deleting history, closing shelf and menus, closing channels and layors view turning off as much in my scene as I can, with minimal success.

Would appreciate any input from anyone as it is a serious problem.

There is something that you can check to further narrow down the problem. Does the slow down happens after you've used Maya for a while, like an hour or so? or is it slow right off when you turn on your machine and launch maya?

If it's okay at first and then after a while maya becomes slow, it might be a memory issue, and it would probably mean that you are working on a scene that needs more RAM.

You could however turn on Fast Interaction under Prefrences menu to speed things up a little.

Also, check your graphic card drivers, it might be a driver issue as well, if you can, uninstall drivers and reinstall them.

hope that helps
