and now, if I have a shape on my screen.. or a mask really.. how do i make anything which enters that mask blurr? can i apply a blurr to a mask? I dont want to add a blurr to the video below.
Any help appreciated :)

The grain question is easy; the other is not so clear so I won't try to answer it. For the grain thing, look under the "Operators" menu and you will see a menu for "Grain Management"; in the sub-menu for that you will see "Add Grain" and "Remove Grain". The both work spectacularly for me...hope this helps.

Thanks abe. Worked a treat. Wouldnt mind some fujitsu presets though, to play with :)
Re the other question, it might be easy to answer if i tell you what i want. I want a shape/spline/bezier/area, which when moved over an image, will blurr the area under it (in this case the image). The blurr is just an example, it could be any other effect that i want to apply to the area.
hope this helps :)

To get that blur:
Add a paint op and just draw out your shape and set the blending mode from paint to blur :) i think you can control the amount of blurriness with the opacity or pressure sliders.
sounds like what you want?

cool - nice one :)
You can also use a selection for cases where you want that certain effect afects only the selected area.
