can anyone help me to achieve a sun texture in photshop? im creating a sun god for the space opera comp and i am concerned about the sun texture... id be very thankfull to anyone that can help me through a method of achieving a look like this :

use patterns for create the fire effect in photoshop and after add empty layers, add colors, and play wit the options modes of the layers

It's not all that simple. The best way to do it is to create a palette with the major 10 colors or so. Use these colors to create different layers with different particles or noise what ever you want to call it. I would start with a layer that contains the most visible color, either an orange/yellow or a darker brown. On top of that I would throw the different layers with different sized clumbs, different distances between them and different colors.
It's not easy for a lot of people, because you'll need to have quite some experience with using Photoshop's filters to create the different effects.
Use the right blending modes and finish of with one or more layers with some 'finishing touch' brush work.
A starting layer could look something like this in my example. Like I said; it's the starting layer; many different layers with different textures have to blended with this base layer to make it look like a sun texture.
(Done with pointillize, blur, levels on a mask)
When you're done making the texture, makes sure you finish it with the 'spherize' filter, otherwise the result will look flat.

Out of curiousity, is this purely Photoshop, or was it made in a 3D program using Photoshop for the texture?
Either way, it looks good. I'd like to see a more detailed tutorial on how you made it. :applause:

I would like to write a tutorial, but that would take too much time so I keep it short. It involved having a black background and 3 base layers; one was colored light yellow, 2nd one orange, 3rd one brown. All layers had a mask and in the masks I created all these clumbs using pixelate/pontillize and using blur & levels to create the size and distance of the clumbs (involves a special technique). Hue&Saturation was used to finetune the colors. Spherize was used to give the flat texture a globe look. I merged all layers after I was satisfied with the result. That's when I started to used several clipping layers to paint some darker and lighter areas using brushes on clipping layers and using the dodge & burn tool in combination with clipping layers that were set to overlay and filled with 50% grey, which allows for non-destructive editing (again, special technique). I used some other tools to clean up some areas. I ended with some selective sharpening.
I've made a lot of textures in the past and it has become some kind of hobby. Some people have used them in their 3D models or games or I use them myself in Photoshop or Cinema 4D. For none of them I can't really write a short tutorial; some of the steps involved almost beg for a tutorial on their own.

Great job on those textures, you certainly have talent. I think if you made it tileable, it would work very well for for 3D. Add a luminosity and/or diffuse map, and perhaps even a bump map and you really have something.
Now all we need to do is work on that solar flare on the side.
